Hi Guys

I was looking at some Frenchie pics earlier, like you do when you're waiting to collect your pup :)

I noticed in this pic that one puppy is quite a lot smaller and looks quite different to the other pups, i.e. eyes wider set for example. Would that smaller pup develop in the same way as the others or is there potential it will be more 'googley' eyed for example

It's really hard to tell by one photo, and sometimes the smallest most off looking pup can end up growing into the most beautiful. If this litter was bred more than one time with AI, that pup could actually be younger than the rest by a few days in uetro. Only time will tell.

It is hard to tell with the picture. All I know is that I want all of these puppies. lol!

Yes that's an interesting about AI, I hadn't thought about that. Surely it wouldn't make a huge amount of difference though? I guess if the litter is large then some are likely to be born smaller. I've seen a few pups with quite goggley eyes and wondered what the pup looked like growing up to understand how to spot that early

Hudson was a googly eyed runt. It took him a little longer but he has grown into being normal!

I like the darker brindle, 2nd one in. Cute. I think they look the same other than how they are holding their ears. All of them are cute. There were only 2 in my litter and my pied boy was bigger than his brindle brother and now they're almost 2 and mine weights 29-30 lbs (he's a lb over the legal limit at times) and the other pup topped out at 16 lbs. He's a doll baby too.

As others have said the runt doesn't always stay the smallest. In fact the largest Great Dane in the world was the runt. :)

Ha, that's interesting. Straight onto Google to check that out :)

I guess so and I guess they grow at different rates. All part of the fun I guess.

Wow, 16lbs is absolutely tiny!!

agreed with all the comments... they all grow so differently. Someone on EBN has a bully that was the biggest pup in the litter, but ended up being a small bully at around 40lbs

My Tallulah was the runt of her litter, I believe she was one of 4. She was very tiny, and actually had to be removed from the rest of the pups because she was getting 'beat up' during puppy play ( she has a small scar on her head and one of her eyes has a permanent scratch). When I went to go see her, I was shocked. She did not look like a French bulldog pup, she looked like an alien! The breeder had another pup there a week older, and they didn't even look like the same species! Of course I fell in love with this poor, beat up, ugly little thing and after having her vet checked to make sure she was healthy, we decided to add her to our family, a decision that has changed all of our lives for the better. She is the best little pup - easy going, laid back, smart and full of personality! You meet her and cannot help but be cast under her spell. She is still a tiny one, weighing just 13 pounds at 6 months old, and her eyes are a bit wide set, but she has definitely grown into herself a bit more and at least looks like a dog and not an alien, lol. I don't know how big she will be full grown, they are all so different, but I really don't care as long as she is healthy. Here's a side by side picture of her on the day I took her home in June at just under 12 weeks old and 3 pounds, and about a week and half ago at 6 months old and 13 pounds.

who wouldnt want that little alien frenchie?!

Just like everyone else said, they all grow differently. Rootbeer started out right where he should have been for weight at his age and then out of nowhere he got much heavier/larger than others his age. I was so worried he was going to be huge but he slowed back down and has ended up at about 27/28lbs. He's on the heavier side but definetly not the 35/40lb beast I was worried he would be! I've seen tiny runts end up being perfect frenchies or even larger than usual sometimes.
As for the eyes I couldn't tell ya, but I do know as a puppy Rootbeers eyes were completely normal/no white showing and now he is a tad wall eyed. Nothing crazy but I know they aren't perfect. I would have never guessed though when he was a puppy.

I would also like to add that photos can be deceiving because of angles, lighting, or a number of other things.

The day we got Isabelle vs Isabelle at 7 months.

I think it just varies. I really don't think there is a way to tell.

Isabelle was an AI puppy, and first born of 4 pups, and the smallest of the 4.
