Rootbeer has been extra gassy lately. Whats your method of choice to help eliminate lovely Frenchie farts?
Thanks!

What are you feeding?
Are you adding any probiotics?
Is your dog a gulper?

:)

He's on the same grain free food he has always been on, Taste of the wild. He is not on a probiotic, he's a little bit of a gulper. He always farts, he's just extra farty the past few days so I was wondering what we could do to help it.

I would add in a probiotic. Jax used to be super gassy with super stinky farts so I added in a probiotic and while he still occasionally lets one rip, they are quite infrequent.

You could treat the symptoms or fix the problem, which Id rather do ;)
Gas can come from food sensitivty or too much starch. It could also come from an unbalanced gut flora(add a probiotic to restore a healthy gut flora).Or if a dog is a big gulper they tend to swallow a lot of air when they eat which can cause gas. A slow feeder bowl would help with that.

Do you have a probiotic you recommend?

I use FortiFlora but MaplesMommy told me organic, plain kefir is a good probiotic so I have just started to transition that into Jax's diet. He's only gotten it twice so far so I can't share any results yet.

He seems to do best on this food. We switch up the flavors from time to time to try to keep him from becoming sensitive or forming an allergy to any of the protiens. He doesn't eat fast just takes in air when he eats. I've been considering probiotics for a while. Is there anything you recommend?

I actually was looking for kefir recently and have had a hard time finding it.

I'm not sure where you live but I got mine at Whole Foods. Trader Joe's would probably have it too.

Yup Kefir would be a great option :)
Try farmers market's or health stores. Ive actually seen some in a few grocery stores as well.

Unfortunately we don't have either of those! My husband is stationed in AL right now and we are limited on stores.

I think some people use yogurt as well. I get the Fortiflora online at Amazon.

I got organic, plain liquid. I'm not sure of any other forms. MaplesMommy will probably be able to tell you more.

Mine is a thick, milky consistency.

Dairy kefir is a little more beneficial. Goats milk would be ideal if you can get your hands on it.Otherwise other milk types work as well :)
Some people make their own kefir so if you can get Kefir grains you could give this a try.

Thank you both! I was able to get the health food store by us to order some for me. Rootbeer is about 28lbs, how much should I give him?

You can also get probiotics at feed stores too. We bought one that is in a big tube that is for livestock. It has the same ingredients at the one from out vet and a whole lot cheaper.
