I have a new colleague at work, who works part time for a raw food manufacturer (K9 Cravings). While I was away on business we began chatting—about dog food of course...lol

She swears that green tripe is like dog crack, and they can't refuse it.

Well after telling her all about my picky eater, she really sold me on giving raw a try... with that we agreed that a good way to get him to eat raw and transition from dry is by starting to add small amounts of green tripe to his dry food.

She sent a whole assortment of raw foods to a local distributor to me at no charge to get the process going.

Today I tried a few pieces of green tripe.... Rico REFUSED to go near it, and ultimately refused to eat anything for the rest of the day... lol.

I kinda don't blame him that green tripe smelled ..... GROSS! Hahaha.

Thoughts?

I have tried black tripe on my dogs. The smell is indeed horrible!! But they love it except one, she is known to be a picky eater anyway.

I have read many great things about tripes so I do rotate around with the liver.

I didn't transition my dogs when I switched them to raw. I would suggest u just go full raw, start with chicken or turkey. Start with breast meat and for the bones, try neck, backs and wings as the bones are easier chew.

Good luck. :)

Huh. Beezy LOVES tripe. I mean, she cannot get enough of it. And because it's so good for her, I give it to her every day. Sometimes, it'll even be her entire meal. I don't even notice the smell anymore, but her dad does.

@Rudi_Lim, I have never in my life heard of black tripe. What is that?

I am shocked your dog didn't like it! Jax loves, loves, loves tripe. Did I say he loves it? I get green bison tripe and he gets it as part of his meal every day. Like stated above, I don't even notice the smell anymore although I do make sure I wear gloves while handling it so I don't have tripe hands all day.

I'm not dealing with a normal one here..... lol. Ugh he is so picky I can't....

Do you think it's the different texture? Because Vital Essentials has a freeze dried tripe food. It's small nuggets that smell awful but look like dry kibble. I've used it for traveling before and it's really great. Then, maybe you can go from the freeze dried tripe to canned or fresh in a slow, gradual manner?

I can't even imagine what having a picky eater would be like. Beezy begs for (and gets) salad greens, broccoli, almonds, cauliflower, spinach - basically, anything she can ingest. I have never seen her turn away from food. Never! But you know what they say ... like mother, like daughter. I'm a good little eater, too.

Do you have a neighbor dog you could invite over for dinner. Picky Rico might just dig in so the guest pup wouldn't get his food! It is competitive eating!!!

I am only able to access to the buffalo tripes in my area and it's always black in color. So I call it black tripe.
