Wot kind of food do you have him on??? Sometimes switching proteins can be helpful. A lot of dogs are allergic to chicken. Yes, one person mentioned allergies. The thing you'd have to find out is what he's allergic to. Food, environment, fleas, any kind of toxic elements etc

yoda is 7months old. he is currently on Orijen and has been since purchased from breeder. He does not seem to be bothered by it at all (as far as itching)

I just responded to your other post.... based on being 7 months, I would have a skin scrape done to check for mange. that is what it looks like to me

update on Yoda. He went to the vet on Monday, vet believes this to be an allergic reaction of some sort. He have been on Apoquel for 2 days and seems to be improving. The vet recommended that if it does not pass after competing the medication and comes back to switch food. He is currently on Orijen puppy. Has anyone had bad experiences with this food? Would there be much of a difference to go from Orijen to possibly Fromm? I appreciate the input and comments especially being new to this forum.

You can switch protein with the Acana... before jumping to another brand. I feed Fromm and have great results with my guys.

Did the vet do a scape to rule out manage?

Can anyone suggest the best food for frenchies that have good allergies that will reduce shedding as well?

There really is no such thing as "the best food for Frenchies" as every dog is different. The best thing is to find a high quality food that works for your dog. What are you feeding now? Common allergies are chicken and beef. Starchy foods like potatoes and peas can cause yeast problems. Some good brands are Orijen, Acana, Fromm, The Honest Kitchen, Grandma Lucy's. You can look at dogfoodadvisor.com which rates the different brands and formulas of dog food.

For shedding you can try adding in a good salmon oil or coconut oil.

Apoquel is not supposed to be used in dogs less than 1 year of age. Vet should have used short course of prednisone or Cytopoint injection. You can try using monthly Nexgard instead of what you are currently using or flea and tick prevention and that will get rid of mange if there is any.

He has nexgard as well , I really appreciate the comments by everyone, it has been helpful ( I'm no vet and this is the first french) . I am just finding out my pup ate a bowl of the cat food 3 days before the outbreak. (Kids ;) does anyone believe this may have been the possible cause? He was doing perfectly fine on the Orijen and had no issues until then.....

Dogs can eat cat food ( although very high in protein ) but cats can't eat dog food. So the bowl of cat food wouldn't be a problem unless he was allergic to some ingredient.

While it may be safe for dogs to eat cat food, it's not recommended for a long period of time due to the differences in nutrients and cat food being much higher in protein. But the fact that the hair loss happened after eating the cat food for 3 days, it is always possible that an ingredient in the cat food caused the reaction. I would probably try the Orijen again since you weren't have any issues and make sure he can't get to the cat food.

The hair loss happened 3 days after him eating one bowl of cat food while he was at a friends house when I was out of town. As far as I know he only had one, not 3 days worth of cat food. I have asked my friend to send me a picture of the ingredient list on the cat food so that I can see what all was in the cat food. Yoda is still on the Orijen puppy at this time. I was just not sure if the cat food could have been the cause. I am determined to figure out the cause. He seem to be getting better quicker than I anticipated but, if it happens again I plan to go to a limited ingredient food to narrow down what exactly the cause is.
