Hi There,
I have a 5 1/2 month old frenchie boy named Oslo. He is my first small breed, as I've only owned large/giant breeds before. My BF who I recently moved in with has a cat, so he wanted a small breed only. I have always loved frenchies, so that was the natural choice ;)
Our only issue with him is that he doesn't make a peep to go outside. By now, all of my past dogs were fully house trained. But Oslo is taking his time on this task it seems. He will go towards the door, but if I do not have my eyes on him and can't lunge over to him within 2.5 seconds, the poop/pee go right on the mat. It's very frustrating. I have always bell trained, but he wants nothing to do with the bell. The only time he will whine is when he is in his crate at night in our bedroom. He will make a little woof to go out. He wakes us up at 3AM on the dot every night. We go to bed at 10. He should be able to hold it and has quite a few times before until 5:45 when I get up, but I think he is just in a routine now of waking up at 3. The vet said to just make him go back to bed because he can hold it, but then he wakes up every half hour and woofs and then we all don't get any more sleep after 3. That is so frustrating too!
During the day while we are at work, he is confined to the kitchen with potty pads and does beautifully. He rarely goes pee on the pads anymore. And he has never pooped while we were gone (or if he did he must have eaten it). So we know he is fully capable of holding it.
I have gotten in to the routine when we are home int he evenings to take him out every hour or two, and 45 minutes after he eats. He goes every time. And the times he doesn't go, we'll come back inside and then he'll pee on the mat like 20 minutes later. ARGGGGGGGGGGG!

The only noise he makes during the day sounds like Chewbacca when he sees me come down the steps (he is confined to our kitchen/back hall area at all times until he is potty trained). He like rolls his "R". LOL Sounds just like Chewbacca. It's his happy noise. Otherwise, he doesn't make a peep except for when we are sound asleep and the cat comes in the room or something.

Hopefully this forum will be a big help!
He is getting neutered in the next couple weeks and then we will start obedience training after that with my daughter. I have taught him sit, stay, come, etc. But she needs to work with him and get more socialized.

:smileywelcome: to you, Oslo and the rest of your pack! Some Frenchies take longer to potty train but have faith, eventually he will be trained!

Welcome Oslo!
Im currently potty training my 5mo old and the pee pads seem to really help. Were starting from square one with training so I'm new to it all.
Good luck to you and Oslo!
Use lots of positive reinforcements!

Welcome!! It does take some time to potty train a Frenchie. Hang in there!

Welcome to you and Oslo. Hang in there on the housebreaking.

:welcome3: It took Cheli two full years to get on the program. Keep in mind, they can only hold 'it' for 1 hour more than they are old (5 months = 6 hours). Cheli also does not make a sound to go potty.... he sits by the stairs and waits for us to show up so we have a very strict schedule ever at 5 yrs old.

Good luck and stay with it

Good to know, thanks. :)
Yes I know his limit is about 6-7 hours now (he'll be 6 mos in a week). And he has made it through the night a couple times. I think his inner clock is just stuck at 3AM and I really want him to get over that. ;) But not much I can do about it. Plus we don't give him any water or food 2.5-3 hours before bed time, so you think the little guy would be empty. But no. And we even let him out right before bed and he goes both. So we have nicknamed him the poop machine. I have no idea where it all comes from when he only gets 1 1/2 cups of food a day. A little breakfast in the morning and a little at like 6 pm. Maybe a peanut butter chewy stick here and there. I'm just needing to adjust to having a puppy again. Every time we get a dog I say that I'm never getting a puppy again, and then I go out and get a puppy. I can't help it ;)
Thanks for all the warm welcomes..

Welcome :)

Frenchies are tough to train. Our youngest, Aiko, is 10 months old and FINALLY gets it

They are stubborn yet amazing little creatures

Welcome to the site and as others have said, some will take longer than others to potty train, and most won't make a sound.
