Backstory:
Waffle is our shy, gentle little 2 year old. We got her at almost 5 months and suspect she may have been mistreated at her first home because she's somewhat fearful of certain things, like being picked up suddenly or tight spaces. She does absolutely love other dogs. So naturally, we got her a companion. Bacon, 11 weeks of adorable chaos. We had prepared for Waffle to be territorial and maybe have to deal with some aggression but quite the opposite. This new little stinker has taken over in no time. She nibs at Waffle, takes her toys away and takes over her bed whenever she's laying in it. (Even though she has a new comfy one of her own). Waffle just stares and her, sometimes sighs, walks away and generally avoids conflict. Occasionally she'll growl or jump up on two legs like a bucking bronco but nothing that would set the little one straight. I was told I just have to let them work it out but it breaks my heart that my big girl is so confused and acting mopey.
Question:
Should I intervene? Any advice is so welcome.
