My litter I have been waiting on was finally born and unfortunately, the only males are pieds. This was the one coat I did not want. I am still contemplating these puppies and have questions about pieds.

I do not like the pink ring around the eyes I often see. Is that guaranteed or likely? I have not seen their faces yet but from the aerial view, they don't seem to have any brindle on them except 2-3 tiny spots around their bottoms. They are almost solid white. :/

I do not like ticking at all. If that is not present in the first few weeks, is it likely to never present itself? How about on the ears? I don't mind it on the belly, but would really prefer not to see it on the ears or anywhere through the coat. Ticking isn't good for show, anyway.

I read the skin is more sensitive on pied puppies, is this true? What do I need to do to protect puppy? I want to show this pup and I need that white coat to be pristine. I would want that regardless of showing. Is there a special shampoo I will have to regularly use to keep it very white? Puppy will not be outside much so I don't anticipate him getting dirty but then again, this is a white dog and I have *never* owned a white dog before.

I'd really appreciate the feedback. I am trying to be positive about this puppy because I love the breeder, the dam and sire, the lines, and the home they will be brought up in. I am just trying to get past this huge color issue.

Thank you for reading!

I was not a fan of pieds at first. My boyfriend wanted a white one so we got aiko. Her coloring wasn't my favorite at first but it's grown on me. Its not all about the color. But to touch on some of your concerns..She has one white eye and the other eye has a blue patch. Her skin is pink so it shows through on areas where the hair isn't as thick... around her one eye, her mouth, her one ear, and On her tummy. She also has blue speckles on various parts of her body. Another thing that is common is tear stains. Something we are currently battling. They are also more prone to allergies. she does get more baths than our red fawn... they go out and play and she gets covered in dirt. She is white. Dogs will be dogs. But It's totally up to you . These dogs are expensive so I understand if you are picky. If you arent head over heels for the puppy youre considering... is the breeder planning another litter with a different sire?
I know we can get impatient when we make the decision to get a puppy but if this is something you do not want then would you possibly be willing to wait for the perfect pup ?
For us I am so glad we got aiko. Before we got her I had my opinions of pieds because I was looking at them subjectively. Now that we have her she's an angel and I don't even see her coloring I just see her.

Well, I can't answer most of your questions as I do not own a pied Frenchie( my girl does have a couple pies in her pedigree though and some of them actually did quite well showing.).

But Im sure you will eventually fall in love with your pup; no matter what color his fur is. But if for some reason you feel like you would not be able to love this pup unconditionally because of his color, then maybe you should wait for another litter or try to find a different breeder. It would be a shame for the pup (and for yourself, too) if you wont ever be able to look at him and feel completely satisfied & happy.

But if you do decide to get one of them : Don't forget that at the end of the day they still are dogs; and shouldnt feel limited in any way because of his lighter color...

I have light colored horses... They are out in the muddy pasture just like any other horse is,too

My white Frenchie is always super white, no tear stains etc. I don't limit him at all. You wouldn't think he was ever allowed outside of my house. That's the first thing people say... "Look how pretty white he is!" He does shed much more. White dogs shed more than any other color.

As for pieds, our girl is pied. She had no ticking as a puppy and the older she gets the more and more ticking throughout the white she has. But again, the white is always extremely white.

I use johnsons and johnsons oatmeal wash for their baths.

Our vet is a breeder and specialist and she herself said pieds are prone to skin issues and allergies more than other colors, but it seems like ALL frenchies are prone to allergies and skin issues, so for that aspect I wouldn't worry more than if the dog wasn't pied. I've had very few issues in 2 years. *knock on wood*

If you didn't want the pied coloring, unless you go view the puppy and fall in love, I would wait. It seems you a dreading this decision and you should be much more excited than this over adding a new pup to the family.

I would definitely discuss how you are feeling with the breeder, and as Hannah said, I would see if they are planning another litter to possibly wait it out for that litter.

^My girl just turned 2 on March 3rd. She has so much ticking, it's gotten more and more since she was a pup, as I mentioned but this pic may help.

I think he would grow on me because just thinking about him it's already an idea that is growing on me. I know it sounds shallow to care so much about color, but I am only human and have my favorites. I am trying to be open minded! I know I'd fall in love with him because frenchies are amazing no matter what color they are.

Have you noticed more speckling as she has aged? Thank you so much for responding!

I think I put you under the impression that I wouldn't love a white pup; that's not at all true. I lost my boy last year and have been waiting on this litter ever since. All my ducks are in a row with the quality of the breeder and lines, so I was really excited. The fact that the only color I don't want is the only color I get to choose from is a bummer, I can't help but admit that.

I am trying to embrace it. I haven't even seen the little piggy faces yet. I just want to prepare. We have already started laughing about the white hair that will be on our black recliner, so clearly we are rolling around.

I'm a researcher by nature. I like to analyze everything and make sure I am making the best decision for me, for my family, and for the pup. That's all! I know I came across shallow, but it wasn't my intention. In the grand scheme of things, I am being offered a beautiful, healthy puppy who will come from excellent lines, a reputable breeder, and a loving home. That's what matters most. Trust me, that is *not* lost on me.

Just trying to research! Can't find the answers to my questions through general Google searches.

No, I get it! When we got Isabelle there were 4 pups, 1 girl was sold. So we had 2 boys and 1 girl to choose from, we wanted a girl, so we literally had 1 girl to choose or pass. Of course we got her, but I understand!

I was just trying to give some straight to the point answers for you!

I'd hate for you to regret getting the pied boy when you want a different color! You deserve to get the Frenchie color you want! They're pricy little babies! ;) A great breeder and parents and etc is a great opportunity though, so I do see why you are heavily weighing your options!

I think I will come around, but I do want to weigh my options. I will see their cute little faces tomorrow...I'm curious to see if they have any facial markings or not. Thank you for your responses!!!

Frenchies are very expensive so you should get what you 100% want.

Wally is a pied but he's got a lot of black on his face so we don't have any tear stain problems. I bathe him about 5 times a year and his white is very white. He has not had any skin issues, and no allergies. *knocks on wood*!! He has gotten some freckles (I think that's what you mean by ticking?) on his belly but only a bit on his legs. One thing, he was born black & white but his parents were brown/brown & white. In the past year the black has slowly turned into a brindle colour. I think it looks pretty cool.

I was originally looking for a fawn with a black mask but once I saw Wally I knew I had to have him. :) I bet you'll do the same when you see the little nuggets. Good luck!

Dexter has only 3 real darker patches on him, then bits and pieces coming through here and there. My one comment really would be that in my experience, the colourings on the face, skin and hair can change quite dramatically over time. So the puppy you are taking home possibly won't look like that in 10 months time etc. Dexter used to have pink rimmed eyes, and now looks like he's wearing smudged eyeliner! His pink nose is now completely black, and his white hair has little black patches appearing all over. We obviously love him to bits, but he's no show dog! (For many reasons!!)

I know you will love the pups when you see them, but if you really, really prefer a different colour just go with your heart. We had no preference regarding colour so just picked on temperament, but I know that's hard if you will be showing.

Hope this helps, and good luck with your decision!

I was under that impression too only because you said it was a huge color issue and that you don't like certain qualities of the whites.... but its good to ask all these questions and to make sure this puppy is right for you. If you know when you see him then id say go for it. If these things still are a huge issue then i would wait. Anyway hope you have all the info now and can make your decision and keep us posted with what you decide... also feel free to ask any other questions I'm sure we will all be able to offer more insight

She is still only a puppy. 5 months old. So right now there is only some ticking on her tummy and white ear but I'm sure more will develop as she ages

I don't know how to tag everyone who responded so I am trying to quote everyone. Sorry, this probably isn't the best way! Anyway, I decided to talk to my breeder and discuss my issues. It turns out that she had misspoke and there is a pied male AND a brindle male!!!! I am over the moon. She also said to consider a female. She has a fawn female (that is my top choice, brindle is second) that she does not think is spoken for. We are going to watch them grow and decide in a couple of weeks.

I feel a huge wave of relief. She spayed the bitch so she doesn't have any litters due anytime soon. She does all health testing and her only other female is around a year old, so there is quite a wait before she is bred. My gut said my puppy was in this litter and now I know he/she is. I feel so much better. Thank you all SO much. I am really happy with all you responded with and so very glad I contacted the breeder.

My day is made. [emoji4]

I am glad that there was a miscommunication and that you may be able to choose the male that you want!

I hope we all helped you on the pied perspective so that if you do happen to fall in love with the little pied boy over the others you can make the best decision!

I'm biased, I love pieds! Here are my 2..... As you can see, the male is more white and has no ticking, but my girl is more brindle and has a lot of ticking, but only on her legs. That being said, she still earned her grand championship in the show ring.
