Hey everyone,

I’m Jay and my new puppy is Javi. He is 4 months old and super adorable. I’m excited to learn from you all.

Currently we are struggling with Finding a good fit for him with food.
He is currently on Wellness Core grain free small breed puppy and even though we gradually changed his food (from Natures recipe) he is experiencing diarrhea and pretty bad too. We called his vet and told us to switch to a bland diet (which I was already ahead on yesterday when he first started the diarrhea) and if it continues to bring him in. We are thinking he might be allergic to something in the new food but we aren’t sure yet. Any advice is appreciated but all in all I’m excited to join this community for more guidance.

Welcome to FBN! How much are you feeding him? Over feeding can cause diarrhea. Also moving to a new environment stresses a puppy and that can cause diarrhea. He may need time to adjust.

We love pictures here!

I assume you got him tested for parasites? If that isn’t it, I agree you have to transition to new food very gradually.

I agree with Stuart. When Yuki was very young we thought it was food allergies also but it turned out to be giardia. It took a couple of months to get rid of it.

Welcome.... I agree with others, has a full parasite test with Giardia been completed? Also, how much at each meal are you feeding?

Congratulations on your new family member! Glad you found this forum; there are some really knowledgeable Frenchie owners here who give great advice.

Thank you everyone! He has been fully tested and no sort of diseases thankfully. His diarrhea has turned into constipation. We feed him 1 1/3 cups daily. His vet schedule him an appointment for tomorrow. He may have eaten something he wasn't supposed too. I'm concerned but his vet wants to wait it out a bit more.

Welcome Jay and Javi. Hopefully it isn't anything other than getting used to his new home and food. I echo the info you already received about poop being very loose when given too much food. It took me forever to figure out the exact amount to feed mine to get consistent hard poops. She is always on food patrol and seems hungry all the time but over feeding isn't good for many reasons. Hope your vet visit goes well! Thanks for sharing such a cute pic! He looks content in his new home :)

Welcome!! He may just have allergies and may take some time finding the right food for him. He's adorable! Good luck at the vet.
