I have a 3 year old frenchie who has been in freshpet for over a year or so. She always scooted and scratched herself and I’m wondering if she may be allergic to chicken and beef. She does not have any hot spots. Also, I’m transitioning her from freshpet to health extensions buffalo, whitefish and sweet potato recipe. She is drinking much more water than usual and is pooping a lot more than usual. Today is day 4. The first 2 days I gave her 75% old food and 25% new days 3&4 50% old and 50% new. Days 6&7 will be 75% new and 25% old. My bet recommended purina pro plan or royal canon but the girl at the pet store suggested health extension because its healthier and doesn’t have beef or chicken. I want to make sure that im doing the right by my girl. Any thoughts or advice?? Thank you paige

in my experience the vets always recommend Purnia pro plan or the hypo allergenic dog food and it's not the best. scooting can be related to many things, one cause every vet wants to jump there first worms, clogged anal glands. does by chance your Frenchie have a tail pocket? My girl would scoot boot boogie and I found out she had an area under her tail that I now clean out regularly and apply ointment or sometimes Monistat as needed for yeast. We tried many things for my boy and ended up having him allergy tested it was 300$, but we also received the allergy shots like a human would take immunological injections to get the body to not react to the allergen anymore ( this is not like the cytopoint allergy shots). We found that our boy was allergic to chicken, turkey, rice, oats, tomato's, peas, corn, flax pretty much everything that is in most dog foods. I started researching/reading every ingredient in better food choices, I found my boy could eat Arcana, canine caviar and Badland ranch.

Good afternoon! I would stay away from Purina and stick with a more high end food. I give my baby Simply Nurish from Pets Mart. It's Salmon and sweet potato. Also, Your dog could begin having a grass allergy. It's pretty common. An allergy shot should work

Agree with others... stay away from Hills, science diet, anything purina. Raw is what I feed and is the best if you are willing... if not, and you need to remain on a kibble.... Open Farm and Zingnature are two higher quality on the market. Try a duck or turkey base single protien and see how they do.
