For those of you that have lost your pup, or have made that choice and it will be happening soon, how did you know it was time? I know this is a hard topic but this is what I'm facing right now and I'm having an extremely difficult time. Thanks for the support.

This is the most difficult thing a pet owner has to do, but the bottom line is suffering. If your pet is suffering and has no quality of life it is time to say good-bye. Then for me, anyway, I start looking for a puppy or an adult that needs a new home and will be a good fit for our family. Our EB is 10 years old and very healthy but when his time comes we'll need to get on with finding Buster a playmate--he isn't cut out to be an only dog.

We're sending love and strength to you at this difficult time.

While not the same situation as you, our Banks was 9 and one day woke very sick... we took her to the vet and when we arrived she was non-responsive. With us next to her, they worked for two hours trying to understand and treat why she was like this... she flatlined twice-- second time we stopped the treatment and just laid on her hugged and cried. Two years and I still cry but know we did the right thing by her.

Sending you hugs of support

It is never an easy decision, but what I do is think about what is best for them and their quality of life or pain level. I do not want them to suffer longer than they need to especially if there is no way they will get better. We have had to make that decision a few times, and it is never easy. To me, you just know when it is time. I know your situation and unfortunately it would be very hard. But you will know when the time comes. We are so sorry for your sweet baby and wish there was something we could do to ease the pain.

MamaScarlett, I just wanted to say I am so sorry that you are going through this. :( I agree with the others, but it doesn't make it any easier of a decision to make.
Please know we are thinking of you and sending so much support.

Oh man, so tough to make those decisions. As others have said, I think it should be based on quality of life. It would not be good if the dog was suffering. I'm so sorry you are going through this and it is never an easy decision. Please know you are in our thoughts.

I am so sorry to hear this. I just said goodbye to the love of my life 3 weeks ago. I have never loved anything or anyone more than my Mia. She had just turned 13 and it has been a difficult time for me. But like others have said, when they are suffering and there is no solution to improve the quality of life - we are their only voice and can give them a nice gift - a peaceful passing. I knew it was time - I could see it in her eyes - she was ready. This is not something we can do for humans who are sick and suffering and have to suffer while they wait to die. My heart goes out to you, hang in there. Prayers sent for you.
