Dogs are a highly social species by nature, so it stands to reason that they prefer to not be alone.
Many folks have just one dog and due to individual situations that works best for them. They take them everywhere.
In essence, we become their "pack" .
My wife and I are both retired and are mostly home, whether both or one of us.
We take our guys out on car trips sometimes, but mostly short walks. They love both car rides and walks! :)
Even so, when we go out, we feel good that our little four legged family members have each other for company.
We have three dogs (an extended pack :)) and they all get along.
We enjoy watching them interact and play together. All different personalities...just like humans.
What are your thoughts?
I look forward to hearing from you!

For 4 years it was just Jax and then we recently added a bulldog puppy to the family. I don't think I can ever have just 1 dog now. But I think for me, 2 is enough!

I have always had two dogs and luckily they have always gotten along. I love to watch their dynamic together. Bambi usually does whatever Ginger does. If Ginger goes out, Bambi goes out. If Ginger doesn't want to come in, Bambi won't come in. :)bitching:) Even if they aren't feeling the love like some do, I still think they enjoy having a fur sibling.

I like having two dogs. Lessens my guilt when I have to leave them alone that they have each other. I'm also raising a service puppy (lab/golden cross) that is 17 months old and she has been great for Stella because she is not fond of other dogs. Nebula has the best temperament and easily ignores all of Stella's snarky behavior. I will only have her for another 3 months and then she goes into advanced training. My daughter also has an Am bulldog that she rescued so we have 4 dogs in the house when she visits. They all get along so well and it's so fun. Not so fun when the big ones are blowing their coats though.

We have two... I want more but two for now is perfect. I will always have at least two so they have company or a playmate when we ar not at home

Two is a good number, we just had to go a little bit past that!
Thank you for sharing.

Similar situation with our frenchies sometimes when they're outside, especially if we use the word "treat" or let them hear the container where the treats are!! Then their hearing is excellent and they come running!! :):

I agree wholeheartedly with that (in bold) comment.
It is wonderful that you are raising a service dog.
How difficult is it to have them, get attached to them, and then surrender them?
We had five dogs for awhile. Yes, we were nuts, but we did enjoy and love them all.

We will always have at least three, even though as I write this I am lobbying for another frenchie puppy.
My wife wants to foster, but she would be a foster failure!!
Thank you for sharing!!

Two to three is a good number for most folks. We have 5 Frenchies of our own, and one 13 week old pup we are keeping for a friend of ours to see how he develops and hoping he will be my next show prospect. We also have two retired English bullies who are almost 12 years old and just taking it easy.

David,
I would love to have five frenchies. I'm working towards number three!! :D
Thanks for sharing.

We had our Boston Uma for 4 years before getting our Frenchie Wally and I'll never go back to one dog again. Uma was fine on her own, but I'm glad she has company during the day when we're at work. I don't want another dog though, 2 is more than enough for me. :)

Bostons are wonderful dogs. People get them and frenchies mixed up sometimes.
I completely understand about two.
We agreed that three is our "number", and yet I'm campaigning for another frenchie.
That would be three frenchies, so we'd still be partially right!! Wish me luck.

Very true. Most people call them both pugs.

Good luck! 3 frenchies would be so fun!

We have only had Gus for 3 months, and I already seriously want another pup. We have always been a one dog family, but now that my kids are older (and one is off to college), I have a lot more time and energy to give to a dog (or dogs, plural). I think it would be totally doable to add another pup to the family. Gus is rarely alone for long, and doesn't have any separation anxiety, but I think it would be nice for him to have a playmate - and while he is young enough that he still has plenty of puppy in him.

I've already been talking with a breeder that breeds the color I'm looking for, and we could add a new addition in 2 or 3 months, if we wanted. Is this crazy? Am I crazy? A year ago, when we knew that we'd inevitably lose our sweet Caviler, I told my family that we'd take a break before adding a new puppy. After we lost her, I couldn't stand how incredibly empty our house felt without a dog (it gets me choked up just thinking about it), so we added our little Frenchie, Gus, to the family pretty quickly. I'm totally smitten.

I still have to pass this by my husband. I've mentioned it here and there, and he hasn't made any objections, but I'm not sure if he knows how serious I am. So, we shall see. He works and travels a lot, so the care falls almost completely in my lap. I guess his only real objection would be the cost, IDK. Wish me luck!

You're correct on two counts!
Thanks for your support!!
I believe that if our frenchies could talk, they'd respond

This is not crazy.. it's called planning. Is your beautiful Gus blue? What color puppy are you looking for? Am I crazy? You are not crazy. Scientific studies have shown that people that have two or more frenchies are that much happier!! This is my story and I'm stickin' to it!! :DA year ago, when we knew that we'd inevitably lose our sweet Caviler, I told my family that we'd take a break before adding a new puppy. I wish you the best of luck..
Please do the same for me!!

We are now back to 3 dogs, it's a good number for us. After loosing two dogs in 3 years (both to age) we questioned if we wanted to start over. We are glad we did! Louie and now Brie (our frenchies) have been the best! Our 9yo Boxer mostly keeps the house in order and the pups provide all the comic relief. What a joy to have wonderful dogs, they bring so much to our family❤️

We lost two older dogs last year. Thanks for sharing your story.
They are little clowns and they use their faces and antics to wiggle into our hearts.
They are indeed wonderful!! I may be a little biased though! :D
