And this is how they sent him home. I made sure to check the incision site last night and the blood shown in the photo was and is still dry. Does this look normal to you guys? It's a lot more swollen and painful looking than I expected.

Ouch! None of my boys looked like that.... did the mention if there were any issues during surgery?

Could be a reaction to the stitches.... ice pack for a few minutes see if it helps the swelling. I'd call vet too

Oh my that looks awful. The males I have had neutered never looked like that either. I would definitely call the vet.

Thanks guys. That's what I thought too. I'm taking him back to the vet now. I'm upset they sent him home like this!

Oh my goodness!! That does not look normal at all and it looks quite painful. I would be very upset with the vet as well. Please keep us updated!

That is NOT normal! What a hack job. Please get to a different vet and have them advise you on caring for your pup.

Oh my that does not look normal!! My Reese had a reaction to the stitches post op and needed 2 rounds of antibiotics. I posted a pic of what the reaction looked like after it started healing. IMG_1059.webp it did not take long post op for her to develop this reaction and she was bright red in the areas. Best of luck and keep us updated.

Just got back from the vet. The tech I dealt with was extremely rude and condescending. He didn't listen when I said he was SENT HOME LIKE THIS and told me there's "medical evidence" that Calvin was licking himself. He also told me I didn't know what I was talking about when I said it didn't look normal because I am not a vet and did not go to college so therefore I'm not educated on this. We have been with him 24/7 keeping an eye on him and he has not licked the incision site. After getting even more frustrated than I already was to begin with, they gave me some kind of cream to apply twice a day for the next 3 days which should reduce swelling. I'm still so upset for my baby. They didn't even bother cleaning all the dried blood off his legs and didn't even acknowledge how swollen he is when sending him home. I'll keep you guys updated. I'm really hoping that the swelling and redness goes down. If not, I'll take him to a different vet.

I also wonder if it could be an allergic reaction to the stitches like Reese had. They didn't even consider that. The tech also told me that they're used to seeing this kind of swelling. His sack is so swollen it looks like he still has balls...

What I see looks worse than an allergic reaction, it looks to be an infection. He needs antibiotics. I really strongly recommend you find a different vet in the morning!! His condition will need more than salve.
It's pretty obvious you've found an incredibly bad vet.

They only gave me medicine for pain, no antibiotics. I'll take him to another vet in the morning. Thank you

OMG!! Unacceptable and disrespectful... i would never go back to that office-- if you do not listen to the person with them 24/7 and knows them.... your worthless in any help.

Keep us posted and ice him a little to help the swelling

It looks like a reaction to something: stitches, Betadine/iodine or chlorahexadine-whatever they used during surgery To prep his skin after they shaved him. It almost looks like the skin has a superficial burn). Regardless, he needs an antibiotic because this reaction will only get worse (infection) without treatment. I would use ice for the swelling.

That's terrible !!! So sorry you have gone through this. Tell them that french bulldogs can't reach the incision site to lick because of the way they are built ! At least mine didn't.

He was completely insensitive to my concerns and tried to place all the blame on Calvin licking yet he hasn't even gone near it. So frustrating.

When buddy was neutered it looked nothing like that at all. Very neat and no swelling. He did develop a reaction to the stitches after a few days but it looked nothing like that ! It was red spots around the stitching area ! That looks awful bless him !!

That vet and vet tech sound horrible. Please don't go back there. Like others have said, it looks like it might be infected. Frenchies can't even reach down there to lick. Definitely find a new vet and take him in ASAP.

Disgusting!!!!! Your poor pup!!! :( I hope you are able to find a new vet for antibiotics! Most Frenchies can't bend to lick so he's clearly making things up. I hate vets like that.

We got some recommendations from some friends and we found a new vet. Taking him there as soon as I get done work today!
