Your experience and this surgery was awful. I am so glad you have taken him to another vet. From what I know, a neuter is pretty simple, just cut off the testicle sack and stitch it back up. This seems way more extensive. Please keep us posted; we are all keeping our fingers crossed for you and little Dirty Paws.

When you get this behind you, I would report your experience to the state veterinary board or whatever governing agency you have. Keep pics to document everything, not that you will get anything but so that they can hopefully censor this vet.

Just got back from the vet. The tech I dealt with was extremely rude and condescending. He didn't listen when I said he was SENT HOME LIKE THIS and told me there's "medical evidence" that Calvin was licking himself. He also told me I didn't know what I was talking about when I said it didn't look normal because I am not a vet and did not go to college so therefore I'm not educated on this. We have been with him 24/7 keeping an eye on him and he has not licked the incision site. After getting even more frustrated than I already was to begin with, they gave me some kind of cream to apply twice a day for the next 3 days which should reduce swelling. I'm still so upset for my baby. They didn't even bother cleaning all the dried blood off his legs and didn't even acknowledge how swollen he is when sending him home. I'll keep you guys updated. I'm really hoping that the swelling and redness goes down. If not, I'll take him to a different vet.

Why did the vet not speak with you about this? That's so horrible. I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. When you picked him up did the vet meet with you and explain his after care? That's what they should have done. I would Yelp this vet and post the picture!

If you go further down in the thread you'll see my yelp posting. I posted the same photo that's on here. I don't want this to happen to other dogs!

The vet never came out to speak to us. Only the person at the counter. All they gave us was paperwork to take home for aftercare

Hey guys, just got back from the vet. They said he's so red and swollen likely from something they prepped him with and from the clippers they used to shave him. They sent me home with an anti inflammatory medication and they said to use it with the cream as well. The crusty stuff is apparently surgical glue that they used and will eventually fall off. I was really happy with how thorough this vet was. His redness and swelling should start to go down by tomorrow

So happy to hear it's nothing serious. This vet sounds much better as he at least listened to your concerns. Hopefully he starts feeling better soon and I would never go back to that first vet!

I didn't have a great experience with the spaying of my dog either. The vet tech didn't give me any postop instructions other than telling me to put an e collar on the dog. Luckily my wife noticed there were non dissolving external stitches and I phoned next day and they said the stitches needed to be removed in 14 days. If I hadn't phoned and left the stitches in, they could have easily become buried beneath the skin and cause an infection.

This is just shocking. I'm glad you have found a decent vet now and hope he's doing much better today. Makes me realise how good our vet is when I see things like this. How they can be in the industry and have such a lack of compassion is just beyond me. Poor little guy. I'm sure he'll bounce back really soon now.

Terrible. I'm so sorry you had to go through that. When we picked Calvin up all we were given was a piece of paper with basic instructions. No one came out to talk to us either :(

SO glad to hear that it's nothing serious!!

I'm shocked by the lack of advice and treatment after getting your pups fixed! I went to the OSPCA to get Wally fixed at a much cheaper rate and we got nothing but the best service. I got papers to take home, plus a conversation with the vet plus the tech. They wanted to actually keep Wally. :)

Glad to hear the other vet was better and hope he heals up real quick. Poor guy. That's so awful that they released him to you like that without a conversation with the vet.

I just wanted to check in to see how Calvin is doing Dirtypaws

He's doing much better. His incision site looks normal now and his swelling and redness have gone way down! Thanks for checking in
