Can anyone recommend a good pee pad? I hate leaving him in a crate all day when I'm at work and would like to leave him with a pee pad. We have tried the paper ones. He destroys them and just pees on the floor. Then we bought the fake grass, tray and bottom tray set, but the grass just sits on top of the trays. Even though I'd leave him with tons of toys, he would play with the grass (gross) and the trays and get his pee everywhere. Then hed pee on top of the grass that was no longer on top of any tray. It was a Mess. Which is why we just started crating him but i feel bad. We do not have a doggy door or anything like that.

I guess my question is why do you feel bad about crating him? Is here in there longer than four hours at a time? I crate trained Radar, coming home for a potty break at lunch, and he did great. He liked his crate, it was a nice safe place to hang out and really helped to save my sanity and the carpet. He's now 100% crate trained and has free reign of the house, but he didn't get that until he earned it.

Yes he is in the crate for longer than 4 hours and I have the kind of job where ill never know if I'm going to get home on time. My husband usually gets home way before me but he's still in the crate for about 8 hours. I have thought about a dog walker I just don't like people I don't know having a key and access to my house.

Do you leave him for 8 hours every day?

Our dogs will only shred the pads if we leave them alone for too long.... 8 hours is a long time to be left alone.

Are you able to check on him at lunch and let him out?

No I'm not able to come home during the day unfortunately. :(
I understand that 8 hours is a long time but I can't be the only person that works full time with a dog.

I think he is bored and that's why he is being destructive. I would seriously look into finding a dog walker to come walk him/play with him.

No you're right you aren't the only one. I work full time as well. If it wasn't for my boyfriend being able to check on the dogs between his classes, we would be in the same position. When my boyfriend worked out of town and it was only me we did doggy day care. Are there any good ones in your area you could do a couple times a week?

to answer your first question though there is such a thing as an indestructible pee pad, one that's a bigger thicker pad and you wash it in the washing machine and re use it. Not sure where you can find one but google might tell you somewhere near you

Jax gets left alone during the day but is confined to the kitchen rather than a crate. When he was younger we would leave pee pads in the kitchen for him and he would just tear them up so I stopped putting them in there. Every now and then he will pee or poop in the kitchen when he is alone but it is rare.

I usually send Jax to doggie daycare once a week. Do you have access to a daycare?

We were in the same exact boat - long work hours, unable to get home during the day, not really keen on giving a key to a stranger - so I feel your pain. Look for 'EZwhelp Washable Whelping & Puppy Pads' on Amazon. They're washable, so get 3 or 4 that you can swap out. You can also get a tray that holds the pads in place and keeps the dog from dragging them around. Good luck!

We use the washable ones. They are cotton and have a moisture proof backing so no leaks. You can get them from LennyPads. Once on the website look for the recycled one. Same good quality and cheaper, just slightly used. That's the ones we buy.
