Hi, my name is Brian and my new puppy Cooper is due to arrive on Monday and today the breeder emailed my informing me he has sores on his privates due to the other pups trying to nurse after being weened. He said he thought he would have it cleared up by now but it hasn't. He asked if I wanted him to treat him for another week or ship as planned and have me treat him. I don't know what to do.

Ouch! I would have the breeder treat the sores and ship you a healed up pup!

Congratulations and welcome to FBN!

I agree- if for no other reason other than you want your dog having a clear bill of health when you take him to the vet for his first checkup, so you can get pet insurance later without exclusions. And if the skin condition gets worse, vet bills can be quite expensive.

The same thing happened to Stella. Her brother would suckle on her head. She was simply treated with antibiotics and it cleared up. When she was ready to come home it was almost gone, but had some hair still missing. I would have the breeder treat it. It's good that you were told about it as well.
