Iodine soak

I'm beginning to wonder if the cytopoint shot is what would help my poor Molly. She is always after her feet, licking mostly, sometimes, trying to chew I think. I notice that her paws are reddish looking (the skin between the pads). I thought it might be discoloring from all the licking..... but maybe it's a yeast infection, as well as allergies?? I've been doing the Betadine soak for several days now (maybe a week at this point) to no avail this time (it has seemed to work in the past)..... Please, any suggestions? Her breeder keeps telling me to change her food, but I'm hesitant to do that as I'm not sure what to change..... (she gets kibble (Fromm and Zignature), as well as raw venison, along with pumpkin, kelp, probios, cranberry powder, milk thistle, bananas occasionally and freeze dried raw.).

Michelle... is it just her paws? Any ear issues (dirty or infection)? Do her paws have a corn chip smell? What protein is the Fromm and Zingnature? Do they have white potato in the ingredients list?

Sounds like yeast to me. I think changing up her food is good advice.

I caved and gave Gus a Cytopoint shot the other week before we had to leave him for several days while we were on vacation. It cost $70 - he's 23-24 lbs. He's had it two other times in the past. It suppresses the itching for a good month, but I absolutely HATE resorting to this, as it doesn't address the underlying issue and any medication can cause damage. I think both of my Frenchies may be allergic to the pine straw mulch that we just laid down. We will be changing to cedar chips next time to see if that helps, so, hopefully, we can avoid medications in the future.

Try first changing her completely from kibble to frozen raw, eg. duck to start, and rotate with rabbit and fish, and cetirizine (Zyrtec) 0.5 mg per pound once daily, then if that doesn't help try getting her the cytopoint shots. I wouldn't give her bananas as they have a lot of sugar. I'm not a big fan of venison due to venison wasting disease ( like mad cow disease ) . You might want to add organic virgin coconut oil and krill or salmon oil as well to the diet, but one at a time in case there's an allergy. If you buy a complete frozen raw product that includes kelp and fish oil then don't add those, otherwise add those into the frozen food.

Yes, just her paws, no ear issues. I guess they kind of have that smell.....maybe, they smell like dog feet to me, LOL. The Fromm and Zignature are grain free, and no potato in the ingredients. Fromm is pork and peas and lamb and lentil. Zignature is Kangaroo.

What brand of frozen raw does everyone use / suggest? I have been using Blue Ridge Beef, it’s the same that the breeder has always used for them. I will have to see if they have duck. I know they have Quail. Leo is on the Natural Mix which has ground beef, ground green tripe (YUK), ground beef heart and liver. Now I note that most of their other meets have no organ in them i.e the Venison is ground venison and ground bone, no organs..... etc etc....

Great that her ears are good.... I’m wondering if she is allergic to grass? Have you tried wiping her paws after coming in for outside?

I pay $62 for Cytopoint for Jax and this last time he went about 11/12 weeks between shots. Before that it was 7/8 weeks. The longer you wait in between shots the better as they can be one immune to it.

That Blue Ridge doesn't sound good if it doesn't include organs. Try Raw Feeders of Asheville Facebook group if you have Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Raw-Feeders-of-Asheville-171778453431202/

I didn't realize that no organ meat was a "bad" thing. I believe Blue Ridge is a good raw, but that's my opion. My Frenchies, as well as where they came from, have been on Blue Ridge raw for many years. What are the pros and cons of organ meat?

In order for raw to be considered complete, it has to consist of the meat, bones, and organs. Which it sounds like you are giving and that their venison doesn’t have organs. Jax gets 100% raw but sometimes he gets a little bison or elk that has bone but no organ. Since he doesn’t get that daily, I don’t worry about it since it all balances out in the end.

Thank you for that clarification Citty! I'm a raw novice, even though I've been feeding it for years..... I've pretty much stuck to what they were fed when I adopted them. What brand raw does Jax get?

I rotate with Vital Essentials, Tucker’s, NW Natural, Answers, Primal and I am able to get ground rabbit locally.
