Hi there,
would be interested to know if anyone experiencing same issues, I have taken my Frenchie this week to have her operation (spayed) and she is now in recovery, Seems to be doing well, prior to operation she has a scab on her face that shw would not leave alone, I kept applying cream, cleaning in her folds regularly and ensuring she wasing scratching it to make it worse, on further inspection I noticed a few other little scabs on her face, whilst down at the vets I asked them to check her out thoroughly whilst in for operation, they did do this and advised antibiotics, any advise also would be helpful, also she has for the last few weeks speant so much time licking her feet, I have noticed they are a little sore, also mentioned this to the vet, but they didn't seem alarmed by this, I clean her with just water when I feel she needs it, but her feet she is paying extra attention to her self. Also she likes to scoot at every opportunity, and again I clean her in this area, and noticed a little red, but I cannot stop her scooting. Any advise on all of the above would be gret

thanks

Poor little punkin sounds like she's having some allergy issues. :(

Gus' paws have been super itchy the past two weeks. I'm pretty sure it's environmental - something blooming, or whatnot. I started doing an iodine soak for his paws, and in only two days, it seemed to make a huge difference. I also started giving him a little goat's milk kefir.

He had a vet visit yesterday and they did give him some Termaril P tablets (he's too young for Apoquel) for the short term. I believe it's a mild steroid and antihistamine, but I'm going to keep up with the foot soaks and kefir. Also, I've been trying to be much more mindful about wiping him down more often when he comes in from playing outside.

I definitely recommend trying the foot soaks. I'm sure other will have more suggestions and ideas. :)

Definitely sounds like an allergy issue. How old is your girl and what are you feeding her? My boy has many environmental allergies and is a paw licker. When the issues first started, he was put on Temaril P which is not good for long term use. Then he went to Apoquel and now he is getting Cytopoint injections about every 6 weeks.

An important thing is to figure out what the allergy(ies) are so you can see if you can eliminate anything (like food). For environmental allergies, maintenance would be the key as you can't really control the grass and weeds and trees, etc. You can try wiping her down with a wipe after she comes in from outside, wiping her paws. I give Jax a bath once a week in a medicated shampoo (I rotate between Ketohex and Chlorohexidine) and when his paws get red or he gets extra licky with them, I will do iodine paw soaks. I fill the sink with enough warm water to cover his paws, add povidone iodine until the water is the color of iced tea and then soak for 5 minutes. I will do this every day until better and it can take up to a week or so, maybe longer depending on how bad it is. I used to always get antibiotics whenever Jax got yeasty but now I just use the iodine and Duoxo wipes and I can get it to clear up on my own. Another thing you can do is rub some coconut oil on her skin if it's looking irritating.

Scooting could be related to anal glands. Maybe they need to be expressed. Or maybe try to wipe down her private areas after every time she pees.

Hi there --- how old is Nala? What do you feed.. brand/protein?

We feed her on a brand called calligan, reccomended by vets, just dry food, she is on and off this so we brought the same brand in wet food which we put in now and then, she likes the odd bit of chicken and we generally dont give her many treats etc

Never heard of this food and could not find anything on the web... could you check the spelling of it, please?
