Joel brought Shasta and Bisou home a wonderful treat a couple weeks ago - a massive antler! They both love it and (usually) take turns chewing on it. At home, there's a great toy to chew on. Now I'm looking for something Bisou can enjoy when I take her to work with me a few days a week. I used to get her large rawhides/ears and she never ate them. She chewed on them until they got soggy, then got bored and found something else to do... so it was like an endless chew toy. Ever since getting the antler, she's started eating them. A little rawhide here and there is fine, but I don't want her to be ingesting too much of it. She needs something a little longer lasting that's still edible.

She's had a flavored Nylabone, but she got bored with that so quickly. I don't want to just get another antler for her at work because I don't want her to get bored with the one she has at home. It really keeps her out of trouble! She's much too smart now for her Kong and cleans it out in less than a minute. I've seen hooves and tendons at the pet store... what do you guys think of them? Bisou is a little chew monster and I want to get something for her that she's not going to inhale in one sitting. What would you recommend?

I really like the Himalayan chews. It keeps Radar busy for a couple of days and when it gets small enough to swallow I put it in the microwave for a minute or two and it puffs up into an even better treat (as far as Radar is concerned). I get the largest size for duration reasons and don't have to worry about choking, sharp ends, hunks getting swallowed or boredom.

Himalayan Chews, Hooves (not the filled kind), and my new personal favorite - bull horns. Antlers are always great too. I also feel comfortable leaving Dante unnattended with only the above... And he doesn't get bored with them, ever -- b/c he has variety.

I'd like to chime in again... you can get two different types of antlers. The split kind and the whole antler. Dante alternates between the two.

Stay away from bully sticks... they can be a chockig hazarrd.... we use antlers and marrow bones along with a ton of nylaybones and kong toys

I went to grab some of the recommendations yesterday, but they were out of Himalayan Chews! Bummer. So I grabbed a couple hooves, and we'll see how she likes them on Monday!

Please be careful with rawhide. I lost a dog when she tried to swallow it and it tore her esophagus. So naturally I have never given my frenchies rawhide or pig ears. They do love the split antler and the different shaped Nylabones. Sometimes I'll smear a pill pocket on the antler to make it interesting for them. The Himalayan chews are good too, but sometimes too much makes soft stools on my guys.

Rawhides, pig ears, bully sticks, and any product of the like are a no no, and can be dangerous for our babies. We only give ours Nylabones and Kongs as chew toys. So if I were you, I would stick with the antlers, Nylabones, and Kongs. I don't know anything about the Himalayan Chews, but I have heard others use them.

I agree. I won't give any of those things. I've seen too many bad things happen at my workplace to dogs that have been given thing. I would stick with Nylabones, and Kongs. Like David, I don't know anything about the Himalayan chews, but I would like to get one sometimes and check it out. I've heard good things about them. One thing I have done is slice sweet potato lengthwise and put it in the dehydrator. They make good chews.

Where can you buy Himalayan chews from? My guy likes his Nylabones but I think he gets bored with them sometimes.

Unleashed has them, so maybe Petco will?

Thanks for the confirmation with rawhides, everyone! The way Bisou used to enjoy them (by not eating them) wasn't a problem, but now that she's eating them I got worried. She practically inhales them, and it scared me! She hasn't had a chance to try out her hoof yet, but I feel much better knowing she's off the rawhides! :whew:

Our petco doesn't have them. Pet smart here does and so does pet food express.

I wasn't sure if those horns would be a good choice for frenchies! But pet supplies plus sells them here! Going to grab one!

Love the horn pic!! I wasn't sure they were OK either. I'm going to have a look this weekend.
