Spoke with an animal nutritionalist for an hour and a half last night about what to feed Titan.

After learning we use Fromm for Isabelle, they suggested the Fromm puppy formula or Merrick Grain Free Puppy Formula. Since the pet store I buy the Fromm at was closed, and we had to start a transition off of this garbage food mixture the breeder suggested for him (really no idea at all what the food was - can't recall her even saying which brand, but there was 5 frenchies in the room going bananas, so I could've missed that part).

Anybody use this? Have any success? Have any bad experiences?

Titan absolutely LOVES it, and begs for more. Today has been his 2nd & 3rd mixed feedings so far and he is so much more enthusiastic and more on a schedule with using the bathroom already.

I can get a 100% money back refund on the Merrick as well, so trying different foods really isn't a big deal its just I don't want to constantly switch foods, so if I could stick with one (as long as he doesn't show signs of allergies) for at least the next 6 months I would be happy with that.

We wanted to see if Titan would eat Fromm, tried to give him a few bites of Isabelle's food (Game Bird Recipe) and he looked at us like we were bonkers. Not sure if it was the particular flavor, or what, but that's why we just grabbed the Merrick, it seemed like a close contender compared to many other companies, and they offered a grain-free puppy line, as I know many frenchies have grain sensitivity, and with his little digestive system a bit wonky right now I didn't want to chance it.

Thanks!

We havent used Merricks but I have heard a lot of good things! Actually I've really only heard good things.

I used the Merrick while searching. I had a problem with their packaging and wrote to them. They wrote me back (by snail mail) and assured me they were changing the packaging and sent me a bunch of $3 off coupons. I haven't tried them again because the old bags are still on the shelves but may try it after I see the new packaging. I did like that they had already recognized the old packaging was a problem, especially for a dog with allergies.

What exactly is with the packaging?

I guess it's good to hear they have a plan on changing it but if they still haven't... Not sure if it was just a ploy to keep a customer or not.

Chance is allergic to duck and chicken so he gets tuna something from Fromm, that could be why he does not like Izzys food.

Nutritionalist said it was like a kid eating ice cream and candy every day, then all of a sudden saying TIME FOR VEGGIES! They'll more than obviously refuse.

He really seems to love the Merrick, though. So glad I found a healthier food than what he had. If I see signs of allergies I'll have to switch, but other than that I'll prob stick with the Merrick :)

We have never tried it, but heard it was good. I would say if he does well on it, then keep him on it.

The first bag I got I had to haul back because the bottom of the bag wasn't sealed properly where it folded. We looked at several of the bags @ Petco and different flavors too and they all had the same problem. I got one from another store and the zip seal pulled off and so we had to "roll" the bag and clip it. My vet dermatologist had told us since Sarge is allergic to dust and dust mites to always be sure his food is kept sealed with the air squeezed out. Dust mites crawl into even the smallest of openings. I was going to get him a sealed container but then I read an article, it may have been on here, (can't recall) that warned against sealed containers because you can't squeeze the air out of them and air breaks the food down because of the preservatives (“tocopherol” or “ascorbate”). Those are natural preservatives and are affected by air, never use a dog food preserved with BHA or BHT. The seals were inferior and so I wrote them to tell them the story and what my vet had said and they were aware of the problem and I was told they were in the process of a redesign. I am still seeing the same bag. Another thing I read in the article is to never buy more dog kibble in a bag than your dog can eat in 30 days because oncce opened and exposed to air it begins to break down and after 30 days ahs lost many nutrients.

That was me that said those things :p I am happy you took it to heart :)

I havent heard about merrick before, Id do more research and see if you can find any complaints about it or weather or not people are happy with it.

I also 100% agree with the sealing of the bags! I buy the small re sealable dog food bags, always squeeze air out, and then I put the bags in a tote. :)

I do the same thing that's why I wrote Merrick because the seal was inferior and I couldn't use it. They claim they'll be making them better.

Hmm maybe I will contact them as well and see what they have to say.
