Hello!
I apologize that my first post is about this. ;( My sweet girl will be 9 months on the 16th. She seems to be in great health. She's had all her normal puppy shots, spayed, chipped and vet says she's doing great. The only problem I'm seeing is this reaction like something is stinging her or biting her down around her vagina area. she kinda grunts or quickly react and tries to get to it but can't, then scoots that area across on the floor. As you know she can not reach that area to clean it herself and it gets so dirty every single day. there is always a yellow pee pee ring around that area and dirt from the ground that sticks around it. I clean it frequently but am worried sometimes Im irritating it too. It doesn't really look inflamed, and she seems to pee fine. I'm not noticing any odd peeing patterns. Any advice would be much appreciated. I'm happy to take her to the vet to run test, but would like to get all of your advice first. Thank you so much! :D

Welcome to you and Laney. I would take her to the vet to have it looked at. Sounds like it is itchy and it could be yeast or an infection. Good luck!

I agree with taking her to vet. There's so many reasons for vaginal irritations including a hooded vulva , urinary tract infections etc. You can start with giving your dog a good dog probiotic such as Proviable DC, a high quality grain free dog food, and lots of fluids including clear broth to make sure she drinks a lot. ( only leave broth out for 15 minutes as it spoils fast ).

OK I will take her. Thanks for responding.

Im pretty sure she doesn't have a hooded vulva. This reaction is very random and usually happens a few times a week but enough to make me feel like I need to go ahead and take her to the vet. I was just curious if anyone else has experienced this with their Frenchie. Soooo grain free dog food? Do you feel strongly about this? if so why? Lots of vets don't agree with this. I'm not sure who to listen to anymore. Thanks so much for responding. ;)

I have 2 bulldogs, and one is on a dog food with grains, and the other is on grain free. The one on grain free constantly licks her paws but much less so when on grain free. You should be able to tell within four weeks if the switch to grain free made a difference. There is no disadvantage to switching to grain free so why not give it a try and see if it helps the itch?

My male Frenchie gets chronic yeast problems with grains. Ear infections, chewing on feet etc. I agree with above, switch for a few weeks and see if it helps. It's definitely worth it. If it's that that's causing the problems then it's a relatively easy fix. Good luck at the vets.

agree with the gang --- have the vet check for any infection and I would avoid grains... also, try to wipe her parts with scent free baby wipes after she pees, help keep the area clean

Grain Can trigger allergy thats why dogs shouldent have it. High protein food With No grain gives your dog the most natural food. And it is as close as possible to how they feed in nature

This happened to Carrot. She was scooting around and everyone thought it was her anal glands. But when I took her to the vet, we realized she had a yeast infection. Not sure how it happened. But he gave me some medicated wipes and a spray that I had to use three times a day. Cleared up fairly quickly. I don't wipe her lady parts very often, BUT if you do, you just need to make sure you wipe front to back! Obvious I know but sometimes one can forget!

Thanks to everyone who responded! It's so nice to have others to talk to. I've had many different breeds of dogs throughout my life, but I have to say these guys are one of a kind! :) lol! I'm enjoying every minute of it, but some days I do want to pull my hair out. Can I say smart and super stubborn. WOW! ::sneaky2:
I set an appointment with the vet and I will repost once I find out what's going on.

Did you find an answer about what is going on ? I’m dealing with a similar issue with my girl. Been to the vet 6 times for this. Very frustrating!

Did they test her urine.... could be yeast or a UTI

Yes - clean catch and did the procedure where they stick a needle through her abdomen to draw urine straight from bladder. Had xrays (normal) bloodwork (normal). Tested and treated for yeast. (Even though I think the yeast was caused by her rubbing so much and becoming raw). Urine cultures came back normal except for a few crystals. They said normally the amount and type she had wouldn’t cause the amount of discomfort she is experiencing. But treated her with antibiotics to make sure. Grain free food and I took her off food that has an animal with a “wing” in it. She doesn’t really have a tail or tail or tail pocket - but have kept a close eye on her bottom “area”.

You covered it all... and still she is itchy?
