He's a cutie. But be wary...of those who breed for color. They are usually trading health for color and a high price tag.

Though the "rare" colored frenchies are gorgeous they can often have more health issues than a recognized color.

I personally would not buy a "rare" color. Prices are ridiculous and they are being bred just for money and too many possible health issues.

I'm sorry; I have to agree with the others here. The breed standard exists for a reason. There are gorgeous color combinations within the breed standard, for probably half of the price. Plus, you are getting a true representation of the breed, color-wise or temperament-wise. Purchasing a designer color enables these breeders to continue "cross breeding," which is really what it is. Not to deter your enthusiasm, but do you have other breeders in your area that you can consider?

When you get your frenchie, you will not be disappointed. They are the most wonderful dogs. Please keep in touch.

He's not in our area even, he's in California and we are in dc. We looked through hundreds of dogs and this one really stood out to us and stole our hearts. I didn't know Black and Tan wasn't a standard color? What is exotic about it? I only heard warnings about blue Frenchies and lilac ones.

Can someone send me pics of all the "recognized" colors? I really don't like the regular colors and face shapes that I have seen so far. My favorite were blue eyes blue Frenchies and we had to compromise on not getting one due to warnings about health issues etc. but what's wrong with this one? We want a beautiful coat and we want huuuge bunny ears.

He's selling him for $3500 but we wouldn't offer more than $2500

Also, can you see just 1 picture I posted of him or all? It shows only 1 on my page and I posted a bunch.

This link will take you to AKC colors and markings. Frenchies like ppl are built differently. Some with huge ears, some with smaller ears. Some with big heads and smooshed faces and some with smaller heads and not as smooshed faces. The best thing to do is find reputable breeders in your area and go visit. You will be shocked what you fall in love with.

To answer your question...yes you can see all the pics above.

Here are the colors from the AKC breed standard:

Color: Acceptable colors - All brindle, fawn, white, brindle and white, and any color except
those which constitute disqualification. All colors are acceptable with the exception of solid
black, mouse, liver, black and tan, black and white, and white with black, which are
disqualifications. Black means black without a trace of brindle.

Of course you can purchase any dog you like. It's just that this colored frenchie will not be a purebred. There is a mix in there somewhere and that is what is giving him his color. If that is what you love, then you should go for it. Also, be aware that his ears look so huge because he is a puppy. Frenchie ears are big - and adorable!!! - however, their ears are bigger when they are puppies. They "grow into" their ears as they mature and their heads and bodies get bigger.

Good luck.

Thank you so much! Do you think $3500 is too high for him then? I'm not planning on showing him or breeding him so there is no need for "standard" or champion bloodline just a life companion. IMG_7704.webpIMG_7706.webp what would you say about this little one? He's also very different

$3500 isn't horrible, as 2000-3000 is about average.

I agree with the gang... hebis a cutie but due to the color he is going to potentially have more issues than the normal Frenchie.

Being in DC, i am in PA and can send you a PM with a great breeder in my area.

As others have mentioned, buying a fad colored frenchie runs the risk of more health issues. Because these colors are "rare" the breeders can charge more. He is really cute and if you do decide to purchase him, I would make sure he comes with a health warranty and take him to your vet right away so he can be checked out for any potential problems. I live and purchased my two in California and $3,500 sounds about right. I learned the hard way and purchased a blue female and she has hydrocephalus and terribly bad allergies.

Yes he comes with up-to-date shots and 1 year health warranty and if we buy him I'll take him to the vet right away. I'm very paranoid about this stuff so I'll need to get him checked from head to tail!

Hi,
Welcome and congrats on deciding on a frenchie! They are the best dogs, period!!
(Please realize that I am a bit biased :) )
It's wonderful that you are immersing yourself with frenchie knowledge.
You came to a great site for info. Lots of wonderful folks here.

We have had four frenchies in the course of a little over 13 years.
We've had brindle, cream, and our newest addition, Charlie, a blue frenchie.
Like you, I wanted to learn about these "unrecognized" and "unaccepted" colors before considering one.
I spoke to some breeders and did research online.
We got a blue frenchie because Charlie is beautiful and he happened to be blue which is also beautiful!!
Charlie's mother and father are both blue and are AKC registered.
Charlie is registerable.I have his papers, but have not yet submitted them.
Because he's blue, he cannot be shown at any AKC sanctioned shows but that's ok, we do not show our dogs.
Go on the AKC site or call and speak to them directly for more clarity.
They are very helpful.

All frenchies are prone to many health problems.
Unlike you, many folks buy them without doing any/much homework.
Not a good recipe for a win/win.
Please read and learn as much as you can and take your time.
Sometimes your next furry best friend may be near where you live.
Remember: Google is your friend.

Good luck and please post pictures when you get your frenchie!!
