We just recently became parents to a little girl frenchie and we are having some major issues with her chewing on our hands, feet, and faces. I try to give her nyla bones and other toys in place of our hands, feet, and face but she comes right back at us. Of course she is very persistent with what she wants.

I am looking for tips on how to break her of this. She is 9 wks old today and we lover her dearly but the biting hurts and is very painful at times. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice you can offer?

Zeta came home at 8 weeks and I tried everything from telling her no and giving her a toy then time outs alone in the bathroom for a minute or two. Etc etc. Honestly the best thing was green soap... I wiped it on my hands and sat down.... Time or two and she decided she was done.... Now she did try again when she would forget.... It's a puppy thing and she will grow out of it but it's part of owning a puppy.... Give her a few months and she will decide it's boring.... And if it wasn't hard enough getting through the puppy stage... We are adding a new puppy on tue....(3rd pjoto).

Thats a common puppy behavior. What worked wonders with my girl was yelping when it got too hard. When its just 'play biting' try to get her interested in a toy instead and play with that so she can still play bite but learns not to do such with human limbs :P If she gets you hard or wont stop biting you then yelp and she should get the message.

The biting/chewing will get less with time. Its like a baby that explores a lot by putting stuff in their mouth :)

When I brought my 9 week old girl home I had the same problem and none of the conventional methods worked for me unfortunately. I tried the yelping, ignoring her, time out, etc. and she didn't care about any of them
one bit. It was very frustrating, not to mention painful. The trainer I took her her to recommended Grannicks Bitter Apple spray (you can get it at any pet store or on Amazon). She hated the taste of it so I would spray it on anything she was biting (my hands, feet, furniture, etc) which would cause her to stop for the meantime and hopefully learn what she was allowed to bite. She did eventually understand when I was saying no it meant not to bite me but it took a long time (at least it felt like a long time, it was probably 4-6 weeks before she got a lot better). I honestly thought it would never stop, but eveyone is right, it will get better. good luck and hang in there!

I did the same. Sprayed my pants and stuff with the apple bitter spray and it worked, he stopped biting us.

^^^ agreed! stay persistent

It's a puppy ting and they will grow out of it. I just tell the "no bite" and give a chew toy, and if they keep doing it, then a little time out is in order. They will learn.

I think everyone has covered it. It will pass and is just a puppy thing.

Thank you everyone. I am definitely going to try the spray. The no seems to make her want to do it more...lol.

As everyone has said, it's temporary, but only if you're consistent! We brought Bisou home at 4 months old and she hadn't really been trained or socialized by her family before us, so she took a lot of work. I miss her puppy smell, but those sharp puppy teeth sure hurt and I don't miss them one bit! She would lunge at our face and even drew blood on my mom the first time they met, and she'd bite our hands and poor Shasta's face to shreds. It took bopping her nose when she lunged at us, getting up and walking away or put her in the kitchen when she got too nippy, and providing her with a variety of textured chew toys that did the trick. She's still a little mouthy now, but she doesn't bite - she just likes to nibble on toes :D
