I'm pretty sure I've posted something like this before because this isn't the first time she's done something like this but I thought you guys might get a chuckle out of it.

So I let Stella and Tank out to go potty the other day, it was afternoon and quite warm and the sun was out. I meandered around the patio looking at the plants while waiting for the dogs to do their thing. Stella stops at the corner of the patio and sort of pounced on something (she pounces with both front paws and her butt in the air, just like a cat!). Then she took a foot and had something trapped (couldn't see what it was because the weeds were tall at that section) and was kind of sniffing and then would back away and then smack her paw down on it again. I though "Oh gross, it's a toad" So I yelled at her and said "Leave it!" which she did for a second and then started smacking and pawing in the weeds again. In my head I was going Shes gonna come out with a mouthful of half dead toad and she's gonna chase me with it because of course she will be so happy and want to show me what a good hunter she is! So I got on my serious voice and yelled at her again "Leave it!!!" She comes over to me and out from the patch of weeds slithers this long nasty garden snake. I hate wild snakes with a passion! It slithered onto the gravel and just stopped and watched it. I'm not ashamed to admit that I tried to kill it by throwing a cement brick at it and running for my life. I know they aren't poisonous but I am a wuss and I would rather not have it around. I apologize if I have saddened any snake lovers with my attempted garden snake assassination but it got away unharmed as I am a terrible shot :)

Stella was totally pleased with herself for her great find and now she checks that spot of the patio everytime we go outside. Eww yuck ewww!

That just made me cackle out loud like some sort of an odd bird. I'm sure my coworkers think I'm nuts but, boy howdy, did I need that laugh. I'm totally anti-snake as well, so I'm Team Stella here :)

Exactly the reaction I would have had. Picture Stella with the snake in her mouth and along comes Tank and the snake becomes a tug toy. I came within about 5' of that happening to me with Mack & Ruggles.

OMG... OMG.... Cheli did the same exct thing to me last summer only it was IN his mouth. I screamed my @$$ off and ran in the house, and realized I had to get Cheli from the snake. Same as you, baby garden snake, but a snake none the less  :faint:

Ha ha...great story! I would have done the same!

*UPDATE*

Stella found an entire den of them. She batted down another one and it took off for a flipped bowl. We moved the bowl and 3 huge snakes took off. OH....MY.....NO!!!! LOL

We just got back from buying a bottle of natural snake repellant....

Oh god....my nightmare!!!

HOLY CRAP, ANDI,!! :faint:

Good luck with the snake repellant. You might want to have a shovel handy...

Omg how scary ! I dont like snakes AT ALL!
Maple was playing with a June Bug the other night. I freaked out. It was in her mouth and i could still hear it flying INSIDE HER MOUTH! My boyfriend opened Maples mouth and it flew out. I watched the whole thing behind closed patio doors of course :p I hate them!

We used to have a doberman who would impale flies on the window with her snout! Lol!
She would use it like a spear and it was the funniest thing.

They are good little hunters. Hazel loves hunting for lizards and catches one every once in awhile. She caught a toad the other night and her mouth foamed up. LOL

They remind me of cats when they are "hunting" lol

Our dachshund is definitely a hunter, but usually only tries to catch toads (we had a foaming mouth incident, too). There is no telling what she and Pierce will find together. I found a small snake under some leaves earlier this week. My first thought was, "Where is your mama?".

I would take snakes any day over the brown widows we find behind our waterfall and deck box...ughhh...
