well i finally got around to doing a little landscaping to a section of my yard, flagstone and a few large pots. problem is trying to make sure not to get any plants that are going to be harmful to my girls, Lucy and Olivia. im in Arizona and have a home depot and lowes but it just isnt as easy as walking in and picking something that looks good only to find out when i get home there toxic to my girls. i dont know why home depot and lowes just dont have a green or red mark on the plants tag letting you know which are safe and which are not.

I wish they would do that too. I worry about Hudson when we walk around the neighborhood because he wants to investigate everything and I'm never sure what's what!!

i feel it will be done in the next few years. it really would take that much on the suppliers part.

I was surprised at some of the plants that are toxic to pets.... including one I HAD in my house

thats what got me started on this quest. moved a night blooming jasmine and wanted to make sure it was going to get enough sun, thats when i found a link stating that is was toxic to dogs, cats, horses and even humans. then it becomes really fun to find ones that arent toxic to dogs but will survive in my climate. like i think i already said, they will eventually have the plants marked stating there safe to pets or not. after all weed killer, bug killer and even rug shampoo is marked. it would be awful to have to take any animal to the vet because there sick and not having any clue to why.

I found this link today! It has a LOT of "allowed" plants! Figured that should help get down to the basics, then you can further research each plant if you wanted a particular one on the list!

I cannot for the life of me find out if my 'Blue Wonder' (Toad Lillies) are poisonous for my babies or not... :fie:

Toad Lilies ARE poisonous...

Looks like they are going up front, not in the back... Now to find a shady enough spot for them...

:ponder:

thats a great link. ive also found a few links myself, including one that petsmart offers. now the magic would be to have a list of pet friendly plants for the area you live in, im in Arizona where temps now are getting to 105 and up. still figure the easy way is to simply add a green paw to all plants sold locally letting you know they are pet friendly, and a green paw with a red X over it letting you know they are not pet friendly. the right person need to read this suggestion and then something might get done about it. how frustrating to have your beloved pet get sick and even the vet cant figure it out, all over a plant, or bush.

Exactly...

They have "hummingbird attracting" "deer attracting" "deer repelling" etc etc...

They could easily add "dog friendly" "cat friendly" and vise versa to at least the most popular types of flowers...

i have a feeling that this just might happen in the next year or two. i could see where it could increase the sales dramatically, say at home depot or lowes, or any nursery, simply by advertising that they have there plants, shrubs and flowers marked pet friendly or not. really, why would i go to lowes to pick out plants if i could go into home depot and see right on the plant if its safe for my pet or not. in fact if i saw a commercial on tv advertising that they now offered that id be on my way. like i said, this is something that need to be noticed by the right person, or company, and they say = hey i never thought of that, thats a great idea. i think it would increase sales. right now you have to download a list of plants, then search each one to see what it looks like, then search if it will survive in your climate.
