Watched an interesting documentary on Netflix called Pet Fooled. It's about an hour long and has some good information and may help us all make better decisions about what we feed our pets. Dr. Karen Becker is featured in it and I think she's great. Definintely worth watching.

Sounds interesting! I'll have to check it out.

Let me save you 70 minutes and give you the punchline:
1)Go frozen raw, next best is dehydrated or freeze dried raw, next best is canned dog food, worst is dry dog food kibble. Only do dry dog food kibble if you are poor.
2) Big pet food companies don't care about you, just your money. They will use the cheapest ingredients they can get away with using, even if it kills your dog, since a dog is by law a piece of property and it's cheaper to be sued by dog owners than to use quality ingredients.

I've read this forum without registering for years.
I've had two frenchies and the information and opinions here have been invaluable.
I've registered today just to say ' thank you' to all of you.
But sometimes, gee whiz, opinions are stinkers.
Only if you are poor.....indeed.

Honeys Owners I thought there was a bit more information than your summation, such as how to read dog food labels and choose a better quality kibble if you do feed kibble. I also found it interesting as to why kibble was invented in the first place. Sorry you felt it necessary to save everyone from 70 mins. of their time, but I was just sharing for those who may be interested in learning more about the dog food industry.

Jax gets fed raw and while that may "be the best" to feed, I would still be interested in watching this. I don't think one can ever have too much information on this subject. And I don't think kibble is made for just "poor" people. If you are going to feed kibble, then knowing the difference between a high and poor quality is necessary.

Not everyone has netflix either, so a summary is useful for those people too. I liked the movie, but felt the movie was a bit biased against large food companies, since they never mentioned that 93% of all pet foods sold in the U.S. are produced by just 3 companies — Big Heart, Mars and Purina, yet 73 of the 88 recall events documented on the dogfoodadvisor website during a recent 5-year period were linked to products of smaller brands.

Of course it's biased it was a junk production. The director had a clear agenda with no scientific info it was all anecdotal evidence. They may be right raw is better but prove beyond a doubt instead of just giving garbage opinion and bashing the other companies. It was very very poorly done. IMO

It's probably good for someone that doesn't have much knowledge about nutrition for dogs. There are still so many people that feed crap food so if those people were to watch it, they would probably learn a thing or two.

I recently read about Dr. Karen Becker, she is a proactive and integrative wellness veterinarian. She has some very interesting videos on her website "healthypets.mercola.com". I just watched a video on her website the other day that was quite interesting...her opinion on spaying and neutering. She was very passionate and emotional about her current and past beliefs and practice on the subject matter, that's all I'll say about it you'll have to watch it to find out more. But just reading about her background I can see why she stands behind the types of foods to feed your dog, she takes a very holistic approach and belief to what she feels is the best for your dog. She provides some very good insight and suggestions, one in particular is about the yeast smell due to allergies. I'm actually using her suggestions and its working...
