Hey Guys

We've had our frenchie Hattie for three weeks now. She's being fed on Royal Canin medium junior which is what the breeder was using and had therefore recommended we continue with. We give her 190g per day as per the bag instructions, split over three meals. At the moment though she's going for a 2 about 7 times a day, maybe more. They're all solid and normal but there are just so many of them. That doesn't seem normal. She's about 2.6kg at the moment at 14 weeks old. She was one of the smaller in the litter, so quite petite :)

Any thoughts?

My Frenchies get about a cup and 1/3 per day. A little breakfast and the rest (about a cup + raw + additives) for supper. Now, with that being said I'm not sure what 190 grams is, but it's been my experience that if I fed the recommended amount on packaging, I'd end up with some serious "fatties"!! Someone smarter that me will have to tell me what 190g is.

Yes I'd be inclined to agree. It's the only reason I can think she needs the toilet so much, the serving size is just too big. It always looks a lot to me

My frenchie is 7.5 months now & we feed her 1 to 1/3 cup per day over 2 meals( down from 3). I have said from the day we got her that she poops more than any other dog i have owned! She still goes about 4-5 times a day & a lot of it! We feed her Fromm, which i thought would help, but it hasn't. Like your baby, she is tiny too, the runt of the litter, but she is growing normally & is a nice weight for her size. Housebreaking has been a challenge because she goes so much!

So it sounds like you're feeding much less than us then and she's several months older. I really think that the guide on the bag is just too much! 4-5 times sounds more reasonable. Poor Hattie is going at least twice that and as you say, it's a lot, not the odd bit here and there. It's ridiculous. Her insides must be working overtime

I can tell you why the dog poops this much. Have a look at the ingredients. There is nothing nutritionous in this food and its full of starchy fillers. The dog can only use very minimal of it and the majority just comes out as waste.
I would look into getting a higher quality kibble such as Acana or Orijen,or GO! /NOW. A lot of people here on the forum also use Fromm. (If you're open minded for a raw diet that would be even better. Just throwing the idea out there though :) ). Maple is a little over 1 year and has been pooping on average once a day(and its tiny & turns into powder within days.Incase you missed a couple when cleaning up the yard lol)ever since we switched her to a raw diet at 6 mths of age.

We feed a mixture of Fromm and raw. One of our babies is 4.5yrs and the other is 11mo. Both weigh 23.5 and seem to be holding steady. Both seem happy only having to poo twice a day.
If I deviate too much one way or the other from the amount or type I feed it doesn't take long for the weight to reflect the change.
Breakfast is 1/3 cup kibble with either pure yogart or banana.
Supper is one cup kibble with a golf ball sized wad of raw plus a similar sizes piece of raw that comes as small pucks (name escapes me now), along with Bitty's cranberry powder and some ProBios or coconut oil (depending on the day).

You need to get Hattie on a better food and less of it. Poor baby is pooping way too much! Buster eats Nature's Variety Instinct Limited Ingredient Lamb and is a very regular twice a day boy!

I would find a better food. We feed our pups FROMM Puppy Gold in the pink bag, and at that age we would feed about 1/3 cup three times a day.

Thanks Alice for reminding me. Instinct is the other brand of raw I feed.

Thanks guys I'll bear that in mind. We've just bought Eden dog food which is the highest rated here in the UK and it's grain free Eden Dog Food rated 5.0 out of 5! All About Dog Food

We will transition her over the next 2-3 weeks. Poor little thing. Silly how the vets and breeder recommended Royal Canin if it's so bad. I guess they are on commission!!

Whilst we wait for the new kibble to arrive 2-3 days, what should we reduce the volume down to, 130g a day?
