Good morning. This past Monday I got my second frenchie at 10 weeks old. He was started on a raw diet with the breeder and I switched him to Wellness Small Breed Dry food. He has had loose stools and almost seems a little constipated with a small bit of flood In it. Has anyone experienced this before? Could it be the food? Any reccomendations on dry food for frenchie puppies?

Did you do a gradual transition from the raw to kibble? A hard transition will beat up your dog's GI system, causing him to have loose stools and other issues.

Add water to the kibble and feed in small portions and that should help. I'm sure it's related to the diet change, but I would not mix them because raw and kibble digest differently and at different rates.

You could do one meal kibble and one raw- just don't mix into the same meal.

To help even out the poo, you can give a tbsp of 100% pure canned pumpkin (not pie filling-pure pumpkin).

If all else fails you can try bland diet for a few days until the tummy settles.

^^ Yes, what bullmama said.

If I knew that I wasn't going to feed raw at all, I probably wouldn't even bother doing the one raw meal at this point. I'd just work on transitioning to the kibble. And the bland diet would be a good backup plan if you're still dealing with soft stools after two weeks.

I actually did the same thing - hard transition from raw to kibble - so I know what you're dealing with. Learned that lesson the hard way, but it'll be okay and work out for you. I would up going back to raw in the end because I couldn't find a kibble that agreed with her system.

Good luck, and keep us posted!

Good advice above, The pumpkin should help. We feed our pups FROMM Puppy Gold in the pink bag, and it works great for ours. Feed you pup 3 times a day until about 7 months of age, then you can switch to adult food and twice a day.

Thank you very much. I started the bland diet last night so he has now had 3 meals, however I am still seeing blood and he still has the motions of constipation. This is still normal correct? I assume it will take another day or so?

Thank you

Add some canned pumpkin if he's constipated, but you may want a vet visit if this keeps going on. :(
