Hi everyone, we've had our 8 week old Frenchie pup for about 3 days now. The breeder gave us Diamond dog food for her, and when we gave it to her the first day she ate it but vomited it a few hours after. She also had watery canon like poop, but was drinking more water that day so I assumed her poop episodes were from either being anxious/nervous because of her new environment or because of the food she was given. Mind you, the kibbles were a bit big for her to eat. After a lot of research and from talking to friends with Frenchies and her refusal of her dog food, we decided to give her Fromm Puppy Gold food, and she ate it with no problems of diarrhea or vomiting. The consistency of her poop also became more thicker and less watery. Now today, she was eating fine because we've been soaking her food in water, but the minute we didn't soak her food, she threw up a short time after. This time the kibbles were undigested. Now I'm thinking, could she be allergic to something in the dog food? Or could it be from her puppy food not being soft since I didn't soak it in water this time? I know this is just a forum and I should seek a vet, but her appointment isn't until Friday so I just wanted some advice to hold me over until then or should I just take her to the ER? It's a bit dramatic I know...it's my first time having a Frenchie :( I'm so in love with her I don't want anything to happen to her. Also, she sleeps a lot but I'm knowing at her age that's all they do, and when she's up she drinks a lot of water and loves to play and be active. She isn't sluggish or anything. Any advice helps! Thank you so much everyone.

Hi! Welcome to FBN!

Sorry that your new little girl isn't doing too hot right now! Believe me I understand all too well the struggles of purchasing a puppy with some issues!

It sounds to me like she's eating too much. Just a guess. How much are you feeding her? And how many times a day? That would be a good start.

This forum is very knowledgable, and many of us have actually solved the issues without a vet visit by asking questions and giving each other advice! So you've joined the right forum! But I am glad that she has a vet appointment soon to address the issue with a professional.

:welcome3: to FBN ..... I agree with blushy, seems like it might be too much food.

Welcome! She could be eating too much, or too fast. WeeDex bought her Frenchie a feeding step. Maybe this is something that would help your puppy.

Hi! Yip, sounds just like Dexter when he was little!

First thing I'd say is it can be trial and error on the food amounts as all pups are so different, and the guidelines on bags can definitely be questionable.

I would highly recommend soaking the kibble just now. Dexter could only eat it moist, or it came right back up. It doesn't have to be mush, just enough to soften it up and make it palatable. And you may find she won't drink as much water too when you're adding it to her food.

And yes - his food step! You could try this..... When he was tiny, I fed him from a quiche / flan bowl sitting on top of a book to create a tiny step for his front feet. So it raised his body up slightly when he ate, and stopped him puking it right back up again. As he got older, I changed the height of the step using various things like books, DVDs, bits of wood! And finally just a few weeks ago got him a Willowstep!

Definitely worth a shot as it could be all it takes to help her keep that food down. Let us know how you get on!

Welcome! We feed fromm gold puppy as well. It's great food! Sounds like WeeDex has some good insight for you. Hope u can figure it out soon and get her eating schedule and habits regular!

How is your pup doing now? I would definitely at least call the vet and see if they want to see puppy in the office. There are unfortunately lots of nasty viruses that puppies can pick up. Hopefully the issue has resolved though. :)
