Hi, all! Hey, so I just watched a video about the one ingredient to add to your dog's food dish and for raw feeders it was mussels. The expert said that you can use frozen mussels that you get in the store, but I'm wondering about using green lipped mussel powder. Anyone know if it's the same thing? I want Beezy to live forever, so I'll do whatever it takes ;)

Excellent! Thanks for this. I can get some of the powder from the place where I order her food but needed to make sure it was as good as the real deal. I'm just not convinced my walmart carries mussels, or that it's the place to get them if they do!

Also, if you're interested in watching the video and are on FB, here it is: https://www.facebook.com/PlanetPaws.ca/videos/1142080315866849/

I find it worrisome that gross quackeries such as "In addition to their inflammatory healing properties, these mussels are considered a superfood because they contain a huge variety of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, Omega-3 fats, antioxidants, enzymes, and many more nutrients" still exist and remain largely unchallenged.

It seems like the worst health claims of the nineties are being recycled by pet food marketers... Resulting in scores of overweight pets pumped full of useless "anti-oxydants" and "pro-biopics"... :(

Well, first off, Rodney Habib isn't a pet food marketer, he's a pet nutritionist - and a darn fine one. Second, how is it "quackery" to talk about the benefits of certain foods? Are human nutritionists quacks for saying that we should be eating more whole grains like quinoa and farro and fewer processed foods? Why would it be quackery to want to provide the best for our pets?

@Herve Eulacia, You might not be too familiar with nutrition. Its totally fine, but before you make claims or comments that are far from the truth, please do some research.

I have been working in the pet nutrition field (with Rodney, actually) for a little while now, and see the benefits that come from a fresh diet on a daily basis.

You're not the girl leaning against the tree at the beginning, are you???

Look, all I know is that ever since I started listening to you and Rodney, Beezy has been super duper healthy. We go to the vet for wellness visits instead of for problems. She's gotten glowing reviews, and she seems to be thriving. So I will continue to follow the advice and recommendations of my two gurus. I plan to be posting pics of Beezy still enjoying life 30 years from now.

And that is so awesome to hear. Im in the same boat: Maple is almost 3 (where does the time go) and knock on wood, we have never had a single health issue and only see the vet once a year for a check up and titer test.

Im following the same,30 year dream. :)

Oh, and nope. But see the girl towards the end, that seems all interested in reading a bag of kibble ..ugh.. Thats me. But hey, you're a good actor, if you can seem so interested in something you are actually very far away from being interested in.

Der. I should have known that was you. I just couldn't imagine you'd ever be shown holding a bag of kibble! Ha! Oscar-worthy performance for sure ;)

Why would the statement mussels have antioxidants and omega 3 fats etc need to be challenged...... it's a fact...not an opinion

Sure, it's a fact. If an anti-wrinkle cream lists vitamin C in its ingredients, it's also a fact. But it's useless. It's a scam. It's marketing targeted at ignorance.

It's wrong and should be challenged. Or at the very least, pointed out.

Here's the beauty of the world we live in: if you don't want to do something or use something, you don't have to. Voila! It's just that easy. But coming into a thread to belittle the people having a discussion is just rude. You are more than welcome to your opinion. And I get where you're coming from - the media and studies are constantly telling us there's a magical new fad food to eat. But you don't have to eat anything or take any supplement you don't want to. If there are some of us on here that *want* to try something because we think it could help our dogs live longer, healthier lives that's up to us. We don't need you coming in and basically implying that we're ignorant about things. Pretty sure that we could make the argument that we are the exact opposite of ignorant and uninformed.

Please, take a moment today to take a deep breath and enjoy the world around you. Smile with your mouth, your eyes, and your heart. Namaste, Hervé.

You may think that it will help your dog live longer, but it won't. And if spending money on fraud is your thing, or if in your world, faith trumps science, it's all fine. But allow me to think differently.

Ha! OK, well, as a beautiful man once said:

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Peace out, bruv.

Have a nice day though :)

@Herve Eulacia

You are new to this forum, but please take note, that thus far it has always been very peaceful and polite on here.
If you see something you don't like , keep scolling.
We have never had any issues in this forum; we all respect each other's life choices.

Like I said, I have been working in the dog/cat nutrition world & I could tell you so many wonderful stories that I have personally witnessed, but I know you're not interested. And thats fine, but please dont bring any negative vibes into this thread.
Thank you.

What you perceive as a negative vibe is merely a dissenting opinion about nutritional quackery.

Don't worry too much.
