We have a 1 year old French Bulldog who has recital bleeding! We have been to the vet numerous times! They tested his stools twice and found nothing!! We did 2 rounds of antibiotics! Did not help! Then they put him on a lengthy ride of antibiotics! Still no help! Put him on a hydrolyzed diet, no help! He is now on a minimal ingredient diet! Has helped some but still bleeding! Does anyone here have experience with this?

Have they checked him for a tail pocket? The only rectal bleeding we have had was caused by an infected tail pocket. We didn't even know Buster had a tail pocket!

Does he have diarrhea too? If so, one of the causes could be histiocytic ulcerative colitis which is treatable with enrofloxacin 5 mg/kg/day for 6-8 weeks.
It might be worth trying fenbendazole (50 mg/kg once daily for 3-5 days) and fibre supplementation (Metamucil) and if that doesn't work, get a colon biopsy done.

Hi Lisa... as suggested... have the checked for colitis? My Bulldog had this and the bleeding would come and go ... only think that helped was Tylan powder. But read Honeys Owners post... and check with the vet. if nothing, maybe you should seek a second opinion with a different vet office.

Hi! hopefully this will help,
My frenchie has had fresh blood at the end of each poop for the last 4 months. negative stool samples. He has colitis and is currently being treated with baytril and we switched him to raw food diet on scheduled meal times. he has gained 5 pounds in the last 4 weeks and you can no longer see his ribs. He hasn't had blood since we started the baytril!

Enrofloxacin that I mentioned before is the generic name for Baytril. Your dog could possibly have histiocytic ulcerative colitis, so he should be on it for 6-8 weeks.
