Hey guys, I've had my 9 week old frenchie puppy for a week now and I've noticed that his third eyelid is rather red. I can sometimes see it when he is awake and it doesn't go away after he wakes up from sleeping like it's supposed to. It's not inflamed or anything though, and most sites that spoke about cherry eye said that it would be inflamed if that's what was causing it? He's absolutely fine otherwise though.
It looks somewhat like this: http://www.dobermantalk.com/attachm...red-third-eye-lid-7month-puppy-help-image.jpg
He's going to the vets in about a week so I'm going to ask about it then, but do you guys know what might be causing it?

Radar's third eyelid was red and it turned out to be environmental allergies. Benadryl or Zyrtec help, there are posts about allergies and dosage based on weight on other threads.

That's caruncle, it seems to look pretty normal esp during puppy stage. Lulu has something similar when she was a puppy and now it's almost gone. It does come in 2 colors, the outer is dark brown and the inner is pinkish red. I am pretty sure yours is not cherry eyes. Have it checked with the vet if it does concern you.

My Nellie has the same thing from 8 weeks old. She is 5 months now and its still there. Two different vets have said its not Cherry eyes. It might be due to allergies or something.

Thanks guys - we did have a suspicion that it could be caused by allergies, but I was just looking around just in case :)

agree -- that would probably be allergies. 1mg of Benedryl per pound 2x a day

Banksy has red eyes too and eye goop. Seems to have been getting worse since we moved to the farm.

I will try benadryl and see if it helps. Should it be regular benadryl or baby benadryl?

How long can they take it for?
