Hello everyone,

So at the end of the month Bella and I will make our way across Canada! We are heading back to Bella's home land of Manitoba.

As I currently live in Nova Scotia, it is about a 36 hour straight drive. I will be doing the trip in 6 days, kind of taking our time.

I was wondering if anyone had any tips for my trip. Bella fortunately rides awesome, and is usually peering out the window, or fast asleep. My main concern is we feed raw...

I just don't know what I should do... Hotels don't have freezers.. I could bring a cooler, and keep reloading it with ice but this will be a worst case scenario. It would work with the Primal complete patty's but I really want to avoid this option if possible!

Does anyone know if the Sardines in Spring water will suffice for the trip as a meal? I was thinking a can or two a day, and add in some broccoli/carrots or spinach and make sure we get a probiotic at least once a day. I just really don't want to throw her off too much, as the trip will do that enough already...

Any tips, even ones not related to food are really appreciated :)

What about the freeze dried option?

I didn't even think of that....

I have no knowledge on freeze dried... is it worse than raw in terms of quality? or similar... I know it is more expensive, but for the trip I am willing to do what's easiest but still best.

What about the freeze dried option?

I don't think it's bad at all. I have never tried it but I think that's what I would feed if I were traveling with Jax. Much easier than worrying about keeping the patties frozen. And while it is more expensive than the frozen, you only need it for a short period of time and then you don't have to worry about a cooler and ice. KimB3384 uses freeze dried when she travels so she can tell you more.

If you're feeding Primal frozen now, your best - and safest for avoiding explosive poop - bet would be to use their freeze-dried option. That way, you're not messing with new ingredients or changing the diet and you know that the nutritional requirements are being met. It's super easy to travel with and there's no refrigeration required. All you need is the food, water, and your bowl.

It's the same food, essentially. It's just had the water sucked out of it, so the quality is top notch. I can't remember if Primal uses HPP as their drying process or not. Some really true die-hard raw feeders say that any amount of heat being applied to the food is a bad thing, but I think it's a non-issue.

I don't have any feeding tips but I would like to suggest a fun place to stop: the Terry Fox monument just before you get to Thunder Bay. It's a good place to stretch your legs and enjoy some beautiful scenery. If you have more time to stop the zipline and suspension bridges at Ouimet Canyon are a lot of fun. I would also like to wish you luck to get through the Toronto area, the traffic is insane. ;)

Have a good trip! It certainly will help that Bella is such a good passenger. :)

I would make up about 4 days worth and freeze it, then put it in a good cooler with dry ice, that will keep it cold. Then the last two days, I would just go to a grocery store and bu what you need for that day. Have fun and have a great trip.

Cbrugs KimB3384 Thanks for the help :) . I am going to buy some Freeze Dried today, and just see what Bella thinks of it. Fortunately the first 3 days of my trip I will be visiting Family along the way and will stick with our normal raw. The remaining days we will do the freeze dried :) as we are going to be logging in some hours venturing across Ontario.
Squishy Walnuts I will definitely check it out!! Another great stop is Kakabeka Falls it is too bad they are so close :P . And we will be avoiding Toronto at all costs!! Taking HWY 17 from the 417 out of Ottawa. Ain't nobody got time for Toronto :P
