Hi - we have a 7-month old Frenchie (female) and for the last few days, she's been scooting. We thought she needed to have her anal glands expressed, so we saw the nurse yesterday and got it done. However, last night, she started scooting again... She's also got a yeast infection on her back paw (we're bathing her twice a week with Malaseb shampoo as indicated by the vet) - could the scooting be caused by the paw infection? We're really desperate to make her better...

Does she have a tail pocket? That might be what's bothering her.

Tail pocket or have you taken a stool sample to check and make sure there are no internal parasites?

Hi - No she doesn't have a tail pocket, and when her anal glands were expressed, stuff did come out - the nurse said the glands weren't full, but were getting there. Could it be that it takes a few days after the anal glands have been expressed for the scooting to stop?

No stool samples were taken, but the nurse did say that the colour and consistency of what came out of her anal glands seemed fine... I am wondering whether it is linked to her infected paw....

Buster sometimes does a scooting, bobbing up and down floor dance. I clean his bottom and always find a pea gravel size of poo.

Our girl scoots. Our vet said to wipe and dry her vulva each pee, and to put some destin in the creases to keep moisture away.

She also said if it doesn't stop she may need a "vulva lift" because it's "too tightly" in there!

That's what I would say too, clean her bum and girly parts and see if that helps.

You could always try adding some pumpkin to her diet (as a preventative measure - if it isn't caused by a parasite or some other medical condition). This will 'bulk up' the poops and express the anal glands naturally when she does a #2. ;)

Thanks for all the advice. I have been cleaning her girly bits after each wee with baby wipes (extra sensitive ones) and she seems to be better...I'll also try some Desitin...

Is Bouba still scooting? Did you figure out what the problem was?

Hi - Bouba is no longer scooting. We applied canesten on her girlie bits twice a day for a few days and cleaned her with baby wipes (for sensitive skin) after every wee, and she seemed to improve within days...We've now stopped the canesten, but regularly use the baby wipes (once or twice a day), and no more scooting!
