Hi there,

My little guy has a bad rash on his face. He keeps scratching it and it has become bloody with pus. There have been no changes in his diet (he eats Fromm heartland gold puppy). Our vet gave us ketoseb + PS shampoo and foam, but it appears to be getting worse.

Any advice?

Has your vet prescribed Apoquel yet? Radar is on it and it works miracles. He may have also developed an allergy to the food. You may want to try a different protein.

My vet did not want to prescribe any oral medication yet, but since it has gotten worse, I think I will ask him about it tomorrow. Definitely going to have to try another food, too. Thank you for your help!

I would shave that area, clean the area with iodine 2-3 times daily and apply any cream your vet prescribed. Keep that area as dry as possible.
Put an a-cone to prevent him from scratching. Hope this helps. Get well soon little one!

looks like a hotspot.... shave the area to keep it clean and dry -- clean with peroxide once a day. it is going to look much worse till it is gone, it will dry up and get very hard. these are due to a weaken immune system from allergies... could be environmental -- did you give Benedryl at all? How old is your little guy?

I bought benadryl and will give it to him this afternoon. Knox is 6 months old. We have a vet appointment at 3pm today - hoping they can shave him and clean it up. I will continue to clean him and likely change his food, just in case. Thanks for your help!

I wouldn't change foods just yet --- it can be all environmental -- try the benedryl first and add a probiotic to his diet. Let us know how the vet appointment goes

My Bulldog, Lambeau had one that was the size of the top of his head at 6 months .... I did allergy testing at 14 months and he is allergic to many trees, grasses, weeds, pollen and a few foods too. But, I did not change his food till after the test results.

The vet did a scrape test, and said he has a a bacterial infection and possibly ringworm. Still waiting on the ringworm confirmation though.

They injected him with an antibiotic, shaved and cleaned his face and gave him a cone. Poor guy looks so sad! I feel awful.

He was prescribed minconosol lotion, burrow's with mupirocin otic solution as well as hydroxyzine for his itching.

Thanks everyone for your help!

I agree, it looks like a hot spot. As others have said, cut the hair as short as you can get it, wash with antibacterial soap and you can use Hydrogen Peroxide on it and keep it dry. It should clear up in a week or so.
