Hello everyone,

My girlfriend and I purchased a 10 week old Frenchie today(Stella). We are a first time french bulldog owner so we just be over worried, but I was curious if anyone has had any similair experiences.

When Stella is sleeping/laying down she seems to be breathing fast and shallow(almost like panting but just through her nose). She otherwise seems normal, playful and active. We've only had her for the day, but if this is a problem I'd like to get her to an emergency vet rather than wait until Monday. Her poops have been diarrhea - but I thought this may be stress related to coming to a new home. She has had her first shots and is due to have her 2nd visit next week.

Has anyone else had a Frenchie in a similar situation? Any advice/input is appreciated.

Cheers,
Reg

Did you have your vet check the breathing as soon as you got the dog. Our pup snores and sometimes shallow fast breaths but vet said he is perfect. So it no worry . Frenchies are famously loud sleeper. Just have the vet check her out on Monday just to be safe

Sounds like it could be a level of apnea... i would have her checked when you take her in for the visit.

The diarrhea could be stress with the change in homes... give a little , like a teaspoon) pure canned pumpkin (not pie filling).. it will help firm the poo.

How is she today? regd8

I haven't been to the vet yet but I have an appointment for Monday. She seems fine today other than her breathing. I only notice it when she is trying to sleep and breathing through her nose. Her poop was slightly more solid today so I'm leaning towards it being stress related. I will definitely try the pumpkin, thank you! IMG_2595.webp

She starts this when laying down trying to get rest, starts slower but ends up like this within a minute or two.

Hmm... let's see what insight David may have... he has more experience with puppies

Anytime mine do that it's because they're getting too warm.

My Monte did this when he was younger. It scared me at first I thought he may have has pneumonia, but it wasn't...I have since chalked it up to dreaming because the vet said he was healthy. He will be 6 months old this month and no longer does this.

It is normal, they do breath fast and then slow sometimes when they are young. They will even jump or jerk when sleeping, all normal. As long as they are not snoring loudly, they are fine. Sometimes if they have an elongated palate, they will have a loud snore, and sometimes have problems swallowing. I think you pup is a beauty, and looks fine. :)
