Hi guys,

My sweet boys name is Chunk and he's just over 1 year old and he's intact. I've been getting pressure from everywhere since I got him to get him fixed for a million different reasons and I don't know what to do. He's got the greatest temperament in the world and is the most friendly dog to other dogs and people. I've had no behavioral issues aside from occasionally destroying a thing or two around the apartment and a tiny bit of stubbornness on walks and coming when he's called. I'm really anxious that getting him fixed will change the things I love about his personality or make him aggressive which I hear can happen. I've been debating it because I've noticed aggression towards him from other dogs, but that's usually at the dog park with a lot of dogs.

Has anyone gotten their frenchie fixed at a later age and seen any negative personality changes? Or even if there were good personality changes? I'm torn on what to do

Neutering is definitely a personal choice. If you are not having issues, then there is not a necessity to get him neutered. I have two males (French Bulldog and English Bulldog) and both are neutered and their personalities did not change at all.

If you aren't going to breed him I think it is best to neuter him.

It is a personal choice, I have had all my guys done with no impact or change to personality or behavior

There are pros and cons about the subject, so it is really up to you. I have had several that were neutered and it never changed their personality other than sometimes it can mellow them out, but age can do the same thing.

Our frenchie was always sexually aggressive and dominate for about 5 months on he might be breed at some point but we used the hormone “chip” . He is night and day different . Calm not aggressive and comfortable with other dogs. It’s a choice like the others said. You gotta do what’s best for you and your dog

I've never heard of a dog becoming aggressive AFTER neutering - just the opposite. There are health benefits as well, to having him neutered, but like others have said, it is a personal choice. My males and females have always been spayed and neutered and they have maintained their loving personalities, maybe just becoming slightly more mellow, but that could have also been due to age.

I will always fix my dogs, it's just my personal preference. Wally was crazy before I got him neutered at 1 years old and crazy after. He didn't change one bit. If your pup has a great personality and you're comfortable with not neutering then by all means leave him be.
