Our Stella is now 7 months old. We love her so much 💜 we have always had fur babies in our home but frenchies definitely train differently than our other dogs. Looking for a guide book or some advice on how we can improve her behavior with the following issues : (she deserves the best we can give her) We don’t hit her or scream at her knowing they absolutely do not deserve that and do not respond well to that behavior.
- the nipping (mostly at feet)
- jumping on guest
- using her doggy door
- won’t come when called
- responding to commands
- jealousy when the grandkids are here
Maybe it’s just being a 7mo old puppy but we definitely want to be on top of it.

Maybe it’s just being a 7mo old puppy but we definitely want to be on top of it.

-nipping at the feet:
When she does that, tell her ‘No bite’ or ‘leave it’ and then give her a toy to play with that she can chew on, so your telling her no to your feet and then saying chew this toy instead and redirecting her.

-Jumping on guests:
Some prefer to put a leash on the dog when guests come, that’s optional, you want to teach her a ‘Off’ command and make sure the visitors do NOT encourage that behaviour-don’t call her or pet her and be calm when entering- when the pup is calm and is Not jumping on the visitors, definitely let the visitors pet her and give her praise.
Then she learns she gets attention when she is not jumping on people. And will hear you say ‘Off’ and once she gets off, praise her and repeat.
Maybe teach her a Off command, then practice of you have others in your home come to door and practice the off command and only give attention when she is NOT jumping.

- doggy door:
Does she use it sometimes? Can you make her use it and praise when you take her thru it before taking her outside??

-commands/coming when called:
Use high value treats she likes(I use freeze dried beef liver or kangaroo 1 ingredient treats- the dogs go nuts for beef liver!)- be patient and repetitive training with high quality treats and reward and get excited when she listens/learns.
Also, You should try not to get frustrated, or she will sense it. Positive reinforcement and repeating and make it fun will be best for her learning and listening.
Have your family do the same things so she knows she has to listen not just to you but to everyone in the home.

even 10 minutes every day of going over the same commands, will be very beneficial to her!

Frenchies are extremely smart, and loyal, and can definitely be stubborn at times during training.
She will learn. They are fast learners, it actually amazes me how quick they learn, especially if they are food motivated.

With the grandkids- just make sure she knows boundaries and tell her ‘Gentle’ when around the kids.
Frenchies love to be the centre of attention!

Thank you ! We will remain patient and continue with daily training. She is stubborn for sure but we will remain consistent. Thank you for your advice, it confirms we are on the right track. Always appreciate your response.

Good advice given for training.... keep in mind every human in the house has to follow the same rules/limitations because the dog will know, just like a toddler, who they can get away with stuff.

we had the same issue with jumping on visitors with or female bulldog... the leash tied to something in the home or someone standing on it did work for her after a few training sessions
