Our puppies are going in to be spayed and neutered tomorrow. Oscar is also having surgery to correct his breathing issues, he tires much quicker than his sister and tends to overheat quicker than her. You can see a big difference in their noses. I know it's kind of late but my husband and I are starting to panic. Our vet is suggesting that she cut a wedge in the skin above his nose (he'll lose a wrinkle) which will pull the nose openings open. I see very little on line about this. It appears most surgery takes a wedge from the nostril or removes part of it at the opening. Anyone have any advice or comments to share? At this point we are going to cancel the stenotic nares repair unless we can find support for her method. Maybe I am not understanding the procedure, but I know she mentioned he would lose a wrinkle.

I heard if this procedure but ONLY when the nose rope is causing issues... His does not appear severe in this picture. I had the nares dine on three of my babies and never mentioned wrinkles being a concern. I would opt for a second opinion or ask that she only widen his nares and not touch the ripe at this point. His nares do seem narrow in this photo

Your boy is a beauty !!!

Thank you 2bullymama. I agree widening the nares will probably solve the problem.
We may be partial but we think he is a handsome fellow.

His nose rope is not that big, and I would not do what the vet wants to do. I would opt for the normal nare surgery.

I have never heard of removing skin above the nose to open up the nostrils. It could be totally legit, but I am not familiar with it and have never had a surgeon suggest it.

Here is a pic of Remy before and after surgery, and then after healed up.

I don't have any advice on the surgery but I wanted to tell you that your boy is gorgeous!

This!! He reminds me of my T! He looks so sweet!

But as for neutering/nares .. Our vet suggested waiting til our boy was over a year old to neuter to let his head/nose naturally grow as big as possible before exploring surgeries...
