Hi all,

Been lurking on the forum for a long time doing research about French Bulldogs and we have finally got one!

He's almost 4 months old and weighs just over 14lbs. We've been feeding him the food the breeder gave us, but couldn't find much online about it so decided to switch to Orijen puppy.

We got the Orijen food this morning and the recommended feeding amount seems to be 1 cup (120g) per day. We're splitting this into 3 meals, so will be 40g per meal.

Does this seem right? When i weigh out 40g of Orijen it doesn't seem like a lot of food. the sizes of the chunks of Orijen are double what we currently feed, but it still doesn't seem a lot.

I think we've probably been over-filling his bowl as he leaves around half of what we normally give him anyway. I think i just feel bad and don't want him think i'm starving him!

Any thoughts and advice appreciated! (I know i'm probably over-thinking this!)

Thanks

:smileywelcome: to you and Ozzy!

For his size, the amount of food sounds right to me. Remember to slowly transition the food change over a week to 10 days: 3/4 old food + 1/4 new food for a couple of days, then 1/2 & 1/2 for a few days, then 1/4 old with 3/4 new and finally all new food!

I am fairly certain I gave Jax more food than 1 cup a day at that age but I can't remember the exact amount. At around 6 months is when I switched the feeding from three times to twice a day and reduced the amount to about 1 cup. I would say pay attention to his stool and whether or not you can feel/see his ribs to gauge if he needs more or not.

Thanks for the replies guys :). I've been giving him 3 meals of 50g and he still leaves a little bit, so I guess the 40 is about right!

He seems a good weight - can see his waist and can't see his ribs (can obviously feel them if you try!)

He's been having treats throughout the day too and normally has a dental stick.

I like poring on the food for a growing pp, until they get around 6 to 7 months, then watch so they don't get too over weight. After the transition and their tummy is doing well on the new food, feed a little more food until their poop is soft then back down just a bit, usually 1 to 1 1/2 cup a day. If the poop is hard, feed a little more. When they get to 7 months you can witch them to adult food and twice a day instead of three times.
