Hi Everyone! So we just found out from the 2nd vet opinion today that my 4 month old Frenchie Lily needs to have her tail amputated :( We had her in the hospital 2 weeks ago for a terrible infection in her tail pocket & being a first time frenchie & dog owner I was absolutely devastated! We were told by the emergency vet that we needed to have her tail amputated after bringing her back to the emergency room the next day because the infection had gotten worse! So now today after seeing a second vet and getting his opinion we were told that we do in fact need to get Lily's tail amputated. So far from what I've read about people having it done to their bulldogs has been nothing but good things! So I'm just reaching out for some advice on what to expect if you've had the surgery done to your baby and how to prepare for it - we are going to get it done when she is 6 months old (in 2 months) so that we can also get her spayed so she wont have to go under 2 times. Anything will help! Thank you in advance -

- A very concerned, worried & scared frenchie mommy :(

Sorry to hear your pup is going through that. Tail pockets can be a real booger! Here is a link to the sister site ( English Bulldog News) that should pop up some results of people who have had their English bulldogs tails amputated. Good luck and I'm sure it will be just fine!

Sorry to hear about Lily, please let us know how her surgery goes. Mamaandi gave you a great place to read about tail amp surgeries, many of our friends there have had it done.

andi has you covered on where to get some info from those with experience.... best of luck and keep us posted

Sorry to hear that about your baby. As long as the vet knows what they are doing, it should go fine. I have never had any of my Frenchies need it, but one of our English (Lucy) needed it because she had an extremely tight tail and would get infections all the time. We had it done and she has never been better. Our vet did and excellent job and she has a little bun for a tail and if you didn't know she had the surgery, you would never know by looking at it.

Sorry to hear you have to have this procedure done. However, if your vet is in agreement with the emergency vet it is probably the right thing to do. And avoid having ongoing issues... I just saw on the Detroit Bulldog rescue that one of theirs just had this procedure done.

What is the direction for the interim 2 months?

David is right, make sure the vet has done this procedure before. We are keeping our paws crossed we don't need this surgery on Buster!
