So my little girl now almost 7months, has started acting weird lately when i go to clean her tail pocket. She used to enjoy me going under there and scratching and cleaning it for her, now she moves away and turns around and nibbles on my hand. I also noticed the hair on the tail and around the pocket has turned rusty kinda like the tear stains under her eyes. When i go in I clean it with witch hazel and put some desetin on it. I dont see any discharge or anything else the cotton ball comes out clean which is weird because when she didnt mind me doing it before the cotton ball would come out really dirty. Any advice? If its infected there is no discharge? Why is the hair around it changing color? Should i go to the vet?
Thanks for your help guys!

Here is a picture(it looks shiny and wet because of the desetin)

Maybe try something stronger like a medicated wipe? My guys don’t have tail pockets but I know ones that do need regular cleanings.

Try cleaning it by either spraying in a solution made from a little bit of ketoconazole/chlorhexidine shampoo mixed into water and then drying, or by wiping with witch hazel. Then put on some antibiotic cream like polysporin or neosporin, Do this for a few days. Once redness goes away just wipe with witch hazel and then desitin or zincofax cream.

I hope my dog just doesn't have a pocket because I'm totally clueless when I see all these articles and such about cleaning.

Buster has a tail pocket that has a weird hook to it. We have our vet clean it about 4 times a year and I wipe him with unscented baby wipes after each bowel movement!
