Looking for suggestions on things to eliminate/reduce tear stains and prevent future staining. Rootbeer has always had some staining and we've always been on top of cleaning his face but recently its gotten pretty bad. We've tried a few things but haven't found anything that works that great.
Thanks!

I have the Burt's Bees Tear Stain Remover? It can prevent/remove.

I've been suggested Witch Hazel? But I haven't tried it.

I use baby wipes on Wally and he doesn't have any stains.

Any specific ones?

I have a 3 year old, so baby wipes are a must in this house.

Isabelle seems to have gotten worse stains since her eye surgery.

Jax was getting tear stains awhile ago and then I switched him to filtered water rather than tap water and the staining is either gone or almost non-existent. I have heard about using witch hazel as well.

I just grabbed whatever wipes were on sale. I believe I have Pampers sensitive wipes.

I don't have kids so my knowledge on baby wipes is minimal. :)

I use witch hazel on a cotton pad or unscented baby wipes

He has always has at least some tear staining. My guess is that his genetics play a part in this but we've usually been able to keep them to a minimum by using some peroxide and water on a cotton ball, drying them, and putting some Desitin on at night. Recently he's been having some issues with his left eye causing excessive tearing (we are seeing the vet regularly right now trying to figure out the issue) and our usual routine just isn't cutting it. The staining is out of control. He drinks filtered water, we still do the peroxide/water on a cotton ball here and there. I dry his eyes throughout the day, wipe his face/wrinkles with Chlorhexidine pads daily and apply desitin at night before bed . Nothing seems to be helping

Tear stains can be from allergies, and also water. Trying filtered water will usually help.

Louie had bad tear stains till I switched his food to grain free Nutri source pure vita. It made a huge difference. I've always given him bottled water since he was a pup so I know it wasn't the water.

I'll tell ya what I heard once. That stainless steel bowls promote tear stains.

Zeta has very minor tear stains but when allergies are bad we clean her wrinkles twice a day with doggy eye wipes to help keep the skin clean and dry to keep away the dreaded infwctions

Max stayed with my brother for a week and came back with some bad tear stains. We can't seem to figure out what caused it. Perhaps it might be have been his adult teeth coming out, change of water quality and/or my brother not regularly wiping Max's eyes (I am a little OCD when it comes to wiping wrinkles).

I've seen a difference after using diaper rash ointment. I wipe Max's tears with baby wipes (hypoallergenic, sensitive skin, fragrance free), use cotton pad or tissue to wipe excess moisture, then apply the diaper rash ointment. I use "Triple Paste Triple Paste Medicated Ointment for Diaper Rash" that is fragrance free and hypoallergenic but I hear Destin works well too.

I also started putting a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in Max's water.

I decided not to use the pet store products (like Angeleyes) since some of them might contain antibiotics and they don't address the underlying issue.

I put on the rash ointment several times a day (3 times) and saw it improve for Max. I'm thinking of buying an air purifier because I hear allergies make tear stains worse!
