Hello everyone :)

Aiko has pretty bad tear stains already and I have asked a few people on instagram with white frenchies how they got rid of theirs and a few people have mentioned a product called Angel's Eyes. Its a powder you add into the food that helps the current stains and prevents further staining. They also have wipes.

I plan on asking my vet if this is safe to use but wanted to ask everyone here too.

Anyone use this stuff before? What age can you start using it? Any other tips for getting rid of tear stains?

Here is the link to Angels Eyes website: Angels Eyes

Thanks in advance

Jax is a fawn but when he started to get tear stains I switched from tap water to bottled water and he didn't get tear stains anymore. I've heard of Angel Eyes but have no experience with it.

Hudson is a brindle but we could feel the tear stains on him. We also switched to filtered water and it totally eliminated the problem.

Moses is almost black, but like with Hudson, the stains could be felt. With Moses things got even worse and he started to loose fur in the nose fold under the eye.
We switched food and all is fixed. In Moses case, the bleeding was then due to some food allergy or something.

I spoke to one breeder once about the stains and she said that sometimes she puts white vaseline to the bottom eye lid and this prevents eye bleeding and hence staining...do not put the vaseline to the eyes though, just on the bottom eye lid.

Eyes can also breed in case they are too dry. You can try to use special eye moisturiser for dogs.

Next time you are at the vet, it's good to ask what she thinks is causing this and what method she recommends to little Aiko.
Let us know what she says...

Aiko looks just like Dexter when he was little, and it was his food that was doing it. When we changed to grain free & pea free, it went away really fast. I was concerned his eyes would be permanently stained brown, but thankfully not.

blushy I noticed Titan doesn't have tear stains and he is white. Has he just never had them? If he DID how did you get rid of them, how do you prevent them?

We feed grain and pea free food already!! Hmmm. The food is still fairly new to her though so hopefully it helps

MaplesMommy Have you ever heard of angels eyes?

Correct me if i'm wrong but I think I remember you saying you worked somehow in the pet industry so thought I would check

He hasn't ever developed any. I switch between tap and bottled water, and I just wash his face with a wash cloth during his baths. Beyond bananas a few times a week and coconut oil a few times a week, I don't do anything special... I'm constantly worried about them, though! Haha!

Even though Isa is dark she doesn't show any signs of tear stains either. Maybe I'm lucky? From pics and seeing siblings/family members of both of my dogs none seem to have tear stains either...

I have used Angel eyes with my white frenchie and didnt do much of anything. I have been having her drink distilled water but that hasnt made much difference either.
So Ikeep wiping them with baby wipes but they are still very visible

I use tear stain remover called fresh paws. It is made of natural ingredients. I just dab it on a cotton ball and gently rub, I also use destin, diaper rash cream.

We are trying angels eyes. No progress yet but it's still early. They say 3 months so we will see. It makes me nervous though

How effective hAve these things been?

Destin seems to work good

I've actually heard that it really does work.

My vet has 12 frenchies last I know of, and she recommended destin as well, for like...... Everything. Haha!

So although I don't need to use it just yet *crosses fingers* I would say that it will work given time! :)

Nothing has worked so far. We switched to Fromm. Only filtered water. Angel eyes. Keeping face clean and dry... Guess we will try destin now. How often is it applied and how much?

I have read ACV added to their water is good for this. I personally use ACV in all our dogs water for flea prevention and it works. We rarely use anything for flea or ticks. The tear stains our English bulldog had decreased when I started this years back as well.

I'm sorry (me and my abbreviations...that's the nurse in me). ACV= Apple Cider Vinegar. We have used it for several things with our pets and livestock.

I was reading that things like Angel Eyes and some other products like Ocubright have Tylosin in them and to be careful with it when using. I believe it is some type of antibiotic and if you do some blood testing while using it, it could give false readings of some sort. Some say that Tearplex, Tearlax, Naturvet work well but they are not too cheap

Exactly! I wouldnt give antibiotics to my dog unless he has a bacterial infection, and antibiotics should neverbe given longterm.

I would stay away from these type of products.
