So, Banksy officially is stuck in the cone of shame. We woke up Friday morning and his eye was so red and shut and just a big watery mess. The vet gave him the cone and some eye drops assuming it's an eye infection. He says if it doesn't go away by Tuesday he has to go under anesthetic and get his eye flushed. Poor boy. He hates the cone(obviously). He just stands there and stares at us and refuses to move! So the vet told us to keep it on at all times.... which I don't like. I want to just put it on when we sleep or leave and he cannot he supervised. What do you guys think/what have you done? Thanks everyone :)

Poor fella.... I would do the same---cone for when not supervised or you're sleeping

Awww...poor Banksy :( I hope he will get well soon.

I agree with 2bullymama. I would also take the cone of shame off and put it back only when unsupervised.
We did that when Mo had to use a cone after surgery. By the way, we discovered then the padded type of "cone" and it is way more comfortable.

I will try to find a photo...it is air filled, really light and you can empty it for storage after use. Really handy. It gives as much protection as the traditional cone. I have occasionally used this padded collar also when treating Mo's paws with med cream and he cannot reach to lick them. Moses seems to think it more as a handy pillow :)

However, for eye issue, he might be able to rub the eye against the carpet though, if he really tries...

When Isabelle had cherry eye surgery she could still just get the cone to fold over and rub her eye on the carpet, and it seemed like she liked the challenge so I would just put it on her when she was in her crate, and at night while we slept but she still managed to sleep on my pillow with me even with the cone on...

So I'd just do what you feel most comfortable with, while adhering to the vets recommendations as best as possible.

When she had pink eye our vet didn't suggest a cone.

In June Jax had conjunctivitis and had to wear a cone for a week. I ended up buying the air filled kind cause it just seemed like it was more comfortable. Jax hated wearing it and for the first couple of days, acted like he couldn't walk and refused to move. With the issue being his eye, I would be careful with NOT using the cone as Jax was ALWAYS trying to find a way to rub and scratch at his eye, even with the cone on. Here is a picture of Jax sulking with his cone:

When Beezy had her mast cell tumor removed last spring she was supposed to wear her cone all the time, but she'd get it wedged in odd places and get stuck. We eventually "ignored" the vet's directions and took it off when we could watch her. But as soon as she was going to be away from us, it went back on. Weirdly enough, they'd never seen an inflatable cone until I brought in the one I'd bought. Now it's pretty much all they recommend.

Even though he clearly hates it I would leave the cone on. Poor Uma had to wear a cone for a full month after her eye surgery. We needed to ensure she would not scratch at her eye or rub it on anything. She got used to it and eventually used it as a weapon against Wally. lol!

hahaha oh my goodness all these cone photos are killing me!! Thanks for the input guys!
