Hi all,

Lola has been on Orijen Puppy since we got her at 8 weeks and shes now 10 weeks. I've been following the guidelines and now that she is 7.5 lbs, she is getting about 90 grams (~3/4 cups) spread out over 3 meals. Sometimes she gets 25 grams of sweet potato. Yes I'm a bit OCD and weigh out her food to be exact . 3/4 cup has always seemed like very little to me and Lola always licks the bowl clean looking for more. I've read this is normal and that Orjien is a dense food but that only adds up to like ~350 calories. Some websites say double that, like 500-600 calories a day.

The Vet gave her the OK, and to me Lola doesn't look fat or too skinny, she's lean. The reason I ask because the we brought her by the breeder the other day to play with her brothers and sisters (she kept 3 of them), and she is the smallest and thinnest. Breeder said she gives unlimited food and they stop when they're full. However she feeds FROMM.

Sometimes depending on how shes sleeping, you can kind of see her ribs. When shes standing up and playing, they aren't visible. I just want to make sure she isn't being underfed but I'm also not sure that a "fat" puppy is healthy. Thoughts?

Funny you say that, I brought my bulldog over to his breeder's house over the weekend cause she was watching one of his brothers so they got to play and his brother is literally twice his size. Louie is the smallest of his litter but even the breeder commented on how good and healthy he looks (he is fed Zignature in the am and raw in the pm). Just like people, dogs are different sizes, even in the same litter and the guidelines on food bags are just that, guidelines. Some dogs may need more and some dogs may need less. You want to see a waist and feel the ribs but not see them. But since she's only 10 weeks old, I would definitely make sure she is eating enough and if she was a little chubby, at that age it is okay.

A 1/4 cup per meal isn't very much food for an active, growing puppy. I'd stick with the 3 X daily and go up to 1/3 cup each feeding.

She's adorable!!!

She looks slender compared to my 15 week old fatty (who I think is probably a little too chunky), but I'm sure after 3-4 days of an increased amount she will put on a little weight.

Agree with Frenchie Grrrl, looks like it's time to increase the portions.

What a sweetheart! Increasing the food wouldn't hurt but she may just be more petite. Gracie has a long slim build (or did as a young puppy). I asked my vet the same question because I could sometimes see her ribs, depending on her position. He did recommend increasing the food volume but also pointed out that she looked healthy and had good muscle tone. Still, a puppy needs adequate nutrition to grow so I think upping the food is a good idea. If she gets too chubby you can always cut back.

We have some petite girls as well, you will know if you are giving her too much food as her poop will get consistently lose. Plus you can always cut back. She looks a little slender to me, but our girls are fit and trim as well. Better skinny than fat (More health/skin issues)

Lola is a beautiful little lady! Everyone else gave great advice [emoji106]

I’m experiencing the same issue. My boy is about to be 8months and I feel like he looks SO skinny. Everyone says he’ll fill out after the age of 1 but I’ve seen a ton of frenchies his age and they’re CHUBBY! I recently increased his food to 2 cups a day split between 2 meals.
