Okay, so Dante will be 13 1/2 weeks and 3 months old when he goes in for his third round of combo vaccines. He received his first at 8 1/2 weeks while with his breeder, his second at 10 1/2 weeks... And now his third. The vet "restarted" his vaccines upon his first visit. Does he really need another vaccination at 16 weeks???

Yeah he really does. They give them in 3 to 4 week sessions to build the immunity. I was taking Baty out and about after his second round. Some are really against taking the puppies out until they are fully vaccinated. I'm not scared and I have had my fully vaccinated GOlden Retriever puppy at 6 months develop Parvo. The vaccines do not PREVENT the disease. It does offer the puppy the antibodies to fight the disease if they contract it and they have a better chance at survival. So I don't stress about it. I was taking Batty out at 12 weeks old to the beaches and parks.

To each his own. Some are more protective. It's all up to you and your comfort level. :)

Julie Stevenson ... I've been taking danté out onto my front lawn. My nerves are dissipating! Also he's going to a puppy socialization session on saturday. I just hated thhe way he felt after his most recent vaccination.. He really scared me.

Maybe your vet can try a different brand that Dante won't have a reaction to.

We always wait until our dogs have been vaccinated for rabies. We have so many deer around here and an infected deer can have it in their urine and it stays active in the ground for years!

Actually the rabies virus cannot be transmitted through urine.

My vaccine opinion is pretty strong and we talked about it a little in the thread ' Vaccines. What is your opinion?' ( at least I think thats what it was called :P).

They have to be bitten by an infected animal to get rabies. Leptospiroris is transmitted by the urine of wild animals though. Some dogs will have a reaction to the vaccine more so than other vaccines it seems. I guess you have to weigh the risks.
