Hi, we have recently been having some issues with our Frenchie that I was curious if anyone else has run into.

He just turned 2, and for about the past month he is disinterested in eating about half the time. We use Taste of the Wild and have switched flavors to see if that would help but it did not. We used to let him go if he did not eat in the morning but then he would vomit bile because his stomach was so empty. Now we will put a little bit of string cheese in his bowl to get him to eat and he is fine.

I have read that sometimes they have the issue with vomiting after the "nighttime fast" but I'm concerned about him not wanting to eat in the morning if he is supposedly so hungry. I find that I have overreacted in the past and ran him to the vet so I want to try and gather opinions or experiences from other frenchie owners before I go to the vet.

Thanks in advance!

I would do exactly what you are doing, jazz up the kibble to make it more interesting. Buster is not food driven and has refused to eat kibble until we add a teaspoon of cottage cheese.

Welcome to FBN! We would love to have you do an introduction and post some pictures of Batman!

Hi there,

Have you considered a raw diet?

Another thing I can think of is maybe try to add some water to the kibble so it isnt as dry anymore.

But Im assuming he may just crave 'real' food and may be missing certain nutritions.

Maybe some low-sodium, diluted beef broth would make things more enticing :)

You can also use some Feta cheese or sprinkle some Parmesan cheese on him kibble too. We have also used Stella & Chewy's Freeze Dried dinners, and just shred a little on their kibble, they love that stuff.

This is definitely interesting, as I put the pieces together re: a similar situation with Quella last night. I work from home, so I'm with Quella 24/7 and she eats at 8am and 8pm. Sometimes, I have to go to the office, or bartend a private event, etc. so I can't feed Quella on schedule and I'll have my brother feed her. When this happens, she will not eat, for up to 5 hours so far. I have a doggy cam, so I can see what she is up to while I'm away and it's like clockwork, her food is still in the bowl, untouched. When I get home she has a horribly grumbly tummy, within 30 mins, she throws up 1/8-1/4 cup of bile. I'll put a teaspoon of yogurt on the food to entice her and she'll gobble it up. From now on I'm going to have my doggy sitter give her splash of something yummy; cottage cheese, yogurt, etc.

XoXo from Quella La Roux and her mommy too!

I have a very picky one too. I usually add some goat's milk yogurt, cottage cheese, or homemade (no salt added) chicken broth, depending on what I have on hand. It usually helps, but sometimes Hudson is just not in the mood. He doesn't eat kibble (gets a refrigerated grain free food), but he is so selective that I have to doctor it up, too.
