Hi everyone,

I'm new here and looking into getting my first Frenchie. I have worked with a lot of Frenchie's which is how I know they would be a lovely fit for our family, however I'm very conscious of making sure we find a good responsible breeder.

I know Frenchies can be prone to a lot of different health problems if they aren't properly bred so what should I look for in a new puppy and potential breeder?

Thanks!

Where are you located, Acey?

Someone may know a reputable breeder in your area.

I'm in the UK - In Ivybridge Devon

Most important is find a breeder that breeds for health and temperament, then, of course, breed standards. Go to dog shows, talk to the handlers & breeders find out who has puppies or will have puppies within your time frame. Visit the kennels, meet the breeding stock. Are the dogs healthy, happy, well cared for and social? How frequently do they breed their females? Do they offer a health guarantee for congenital defects? For how long? Don't be afraid to pay up for a good, healthy puppy. An unhealthy pup will cost you way more in the long run. Also, go with your gut feeling when you meet the breeders and their dogs. If any red flags pop up RUN away!

Thanks everyone!

ShouldI be concerned about method of birth? I know a lot of Frenchies have c-sections. Is that more or less ethical than a naturl birth?

Frenchies usually undergo c-sections as it is safer for them to give birth that way.
