Please help. Little billy has woke up with a limp. It has been since yesterday morning. He went to bed fine and woke up with a limp in his front right hand leg. He will let me lift it and feel all down the leg and round the paw with out squeaking.

How do I know what's wrong? How long do I leave it before a vet visit? He is running and completely himself so I don't know whether he is just slept on it funny?

Any thoughts.

How old is he? It could be he just pulled something and with a few days rest (no running or jumping) it will heal up.

He's a puppy still right? Sometimes they can play hard and be a little sore. Or if he was jumping off of something he may have hurt it a little. Did you examine in between his toes and his pad in case he has a sticker or pebble stuck? If it doesn't seem to be getting better in a couple of days I would make a trip to the vet for an x-ray.

The same thing happened to Jax when he was younger a couple times. It turns out it was just from playing too hard/rough with bigger dogs. The vet had given him an anti-inflammatory. I would definitely try to keep him from running/jumping around (easier said than done). If the limping continues for a few days or he is showing signs of distress, I would take him to the vet.

Buster takes flying leaps off the couch, big granite rocks outside, etc. and sometimes will limp a bit the next day. He continues to do his leaping so it must not hurt too much. Do check Billy's pads to make sure they are clean of any foreign material that could be causing the limp!

Thanks every one. I have now checked his pads and in between his toes and there was nothing there. I compared it to the other paw and all looks the same. He was on a walk and one minute he limps then the next nothing then limping again. How long do you do you recommend I leave it before a vet visit? I'm hoping it will go away on its own.

Thanks every one for the support. X

Bisou does this to herself all the time. She runs too hard or jumps off the couch too many times and she'll be limping for a couple days. I don't know how long to wait before taking him in since we can't see him, but my personal gauge with Bisou is one week unless it gets worse. Keep him as calm as possible and let it heal itself. If it doesn't get better in a week's time, he may need to be seen by a vet.

I would give it a few days to see if it gets better. He probably just pulled something and should be OK in a few days. They all do this from time to time.

Hi all. Thanks for all your advice. As of yesterday the little guy seems completely fine. No more limping and running round like crazy. Must have just bumped it!!! Thanks all.
