Xpen questions

Hello all, first post here with a new 10 week old frenchie.

I've read some post about an xpen. I think I know what it consist of, but not really as I haven't found a thread specifically for it.

We are currently trying to train our pup not to go to the bathroom inside. I do have a crate, but have only used it at night where he has urinated in it in the past. My wife has been waking up every two hours to take him to the pads to pee, but it's exhausting for her. This is where this xpen comes in. We also have to keep our eyes on him every single minute to make sure he doesn't go inside the house. At the moment he is free to roam the house when we are home, but someone must always have eyes on him. I'm sure you know how old that gets between my wife and I and our 9 year old daughter.

Can someone explain exactly what this xpen is? I think it's just a crate with fencing around it to allow him to go outside of the crate to go on the pee pads when he feels the need.

Also, any other suggestions would be great. I'm all ears!!

It is basically a play pen for a dog. It is portable and freestanding. They come in different heights. They are great when you can't keep an eye on the puppy. I never got up during the night with both of mine. I used the pee pee pads at night and during the day took them out. I just put the crate inside the exercise pen and left the door open. Once they could hold it all night I closed the door on the crate. It was a good way for them to get used to their crate too.

Ok so I was half right. This is exactly what I want to try out. Now do I leave just enough room outside of the crate for the pee pads so he can go on them? As I said before, we are trying to get him to use the pads besides go outside and also get him used to the crate.

Here's mine, 2' tall. You can see I changed its shape a little limit how many pee pads I needed to use, and you may also see I needed to use a couple yard sticks fastened to keep her from pushing it off the pads. It's also zip tied to her crate to keep the whole unit more stable.

BTW, don't buy puppy pee pads! Too expensive! Buy people pee pads, cheaper, better, and can be had in larger sizes.

Yes I went out and bought everything today and I'll assemble it tonight. Thanks for the pic!

Stupid question but where do I get those people pee pads?
